Thanks live2drive. Where to buy 8520 for a good price with bill and warranty, etc. in Bangalore? List price seems to be 15-16K for this phone. 13K would be sweet.

This is the cheapest I could find on EBay from a reputed seller:
eBay India: BLACKBERRY CURVE 8520 PHONE OFFICIALLY UNLOCKD BILL NEW (item 270532846575 end time 24-Feb-2010 16:49:29 IST)

Hunt for it in some local shops. I'm sure you'll be able to get it much cheaper.

I require office email ...

The 299 plan works fine otherwise. Currently there is a synchronization between office admin and the Vodafone guys.

BES is not used by every company. So in many cases, office e-mails can also be activated

Just an update on the 8520 price.

It was last bought by a known person in delhi with B&W from Redington at a rock bottom price of 12600 Rupees. This is as low as it gets.

Rumours are that 8520 is sold out in most metros and are now being sold at as high as 15k in smaller cities.

The addition of White & Violet is creating buzzes amongst the females

I have now had my 8520 for 2 months and I must say IT ROCKS !!!

So if someone is planning to get a 8520 - get it now, Prices are not going down and might even go up a bit. First time I am seeing a mobile which actually came down and is going up now !

My company does. Never experienced the other scenario.

In any case, what I have found out is that I do not have to go for the 899 plan. The company has an agreement with Vodafone on some 699 plan. Let's see how that goes.

Step 1: Download desired OS 5 ver to your PC.

Step 2: Install(Double click on the downloaded file) and complete the setup process to have the OS installed.

Step 3: Remember to delete vendor.xml file if the OS is not from your carrier. Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader and delete or rename Vendor.xml

Step 4: Do a comprehensive backup in case anything goes wrong. Disconnect from your local network.

Step 5: Connect Bold to PC and click on the Loader and let the process initiate. Loader can be found in the same folder as the vendor.xml file. When prompted let it backup and select the applications to be installed.

Step 6: Do not unplug the Bold during the process. Process may take around 30-60 minutes to complete.

also make sure to plug it into one of the rear usb slots on your cpu since the front ones dont supply enough voltage sometimes and your phone might get bricked, lol that happened to me. spend another day fixing it.

Upgraded my 9700 with the latest 5.0.0.442 software. The software my Bold2 came with got annoying in recent times due to frequent hanging/crashing.
Here is the link for those who want to upgrade their 9700 software: Newest Official Bold 9700 OS 5.0.0.442 - BlackBerry Forums at CrackBerry.com

Quickpull certainly is a must for every BB. I think RIM needs to incorporate this feature into the phone itself as without doing a full reset everyday you are bound to hanging etc.
Gone are the days when BB softwares were rock solid. I remember when I first got a BB, the pearl 8100 I believe. I never did a battery pull on it and it was super quick with no hicups.

New problem on my BB Curve 8310. I have Auto On/Off enabled. The problem description is as follows:

The Auto On/Off feature is set to turn the BB off at 1.00 am and switch it on at 8.00 am. If I put the BB on charge before 1.00 am, the phone switches off correctly at 1.00 am but fails to switch on at 8.00 am. The phone is charging all this while. I've missed several calls, messages and e-mails because of this and realize that it is off only when I see it.

However, if the phone is not put to charge, it works just fine - switches off at 1.00 am and switches back on at 8.00 am.

Gurus, any solution/reason for this problem?

Cheers!

Official OS 5.0.0.509 For The Blackberry Curve 8520, 8900 And Bold 9000 From WIND Hellas | CrackBerry.com

Once you've installed the update on your PC, just go to X:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\ or X:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion and delete the Vendor.xml file. Then update using AppLoader.
