I may add that many BB models used a GPRS based service for GPS, and thus are not true GPS units - Curve for sure!

Very true, I have 8900 curve and unless i am on the BIS 899 vodafone plan, i cannot access the GPS, Its more of AGPS than the actual GPS.

How is the curve 3g? does it depend on internet connection or does it have an built in GPS. planning to go for that.

Cell phones nowadays use assisted GPS to get faster position lock. It does work without a data connection in other phones with many apps, but it doesn't in most BB apps. But more than a hardware disability its a BB firmware restriction.

Since BB maps are not helpful for india, inav by MMI seems to be a good option. I searched for inav here and found reviews for year 2009. Anyone got it installed on BB in 2010 ??

Guys,

I 'm looking to buy BB in immediate future. I am considering BB 9300 Curve 3G & BB 9700 Bold. I haven't used BB ever so this is a first for me, my initial impression is that 9300 Curve with its individual separated keys was easier to use and type on. There were less typo's while used 9300 when compared to 9700. Other consideration is the budget, around 20K INR owing to other big ticket purchases lined up on the family front.

I had a couple of questions upfront
----------------------------------

a. Is there a perceptible performance difference between 9300 and 9700 i.e. while using Email and other software/ apps, owing to difference in processor speed and OS version ?

b. What are the negatives of BB 9300 / BB9700 ?

c. I have heard BB models and mobiles on the whole are cheaper in NOIDA compared to rest of NCR, is that true? Whats good price to expect for both 9300 and 9700 and where to buy them from ?
EDIT : I have checked up the prices at CROMA Delhi,
BB 9700 BOLD = 26,990 INR
BB 9300 Curve 3G = 19,990 INR

d. I am due to travel to Mumbai for work, would I get BB any cheaper in mumbai than NCR and if yes, where from ?

e. The memory on both can be increased using SD card, whats maximum memory for either of the models ?

f. I have a frd in US who can pick up stuff from there for me, any suggestions as to where to buy an unlocked BB 9700 from in US ? I tried wirefly.com while its good place to buy from, its selling the replacement BB9700 at 500 USD and thereabouts, not sure if its unlocked for usage in India ?

Hi in case you intend to use the basic gprs service you can with the wap browser the bis guys told you not to use.
*HOWEVER* you CANNOT use any app that connects to the BB service so you have to get the generic chat and messenger programs like I'm plus and browsers like bolt and opera.

not much.

9300: Display resolution sucks.

EDIT : I have checked up the prices at CROMA Delhi,
BB 9700 BOLD = 26,990 INR [has come down to Rs.25k since yesterday.]
BB 9300 Curve 3G = 19,990 INR [Rs.18,500]

d. I am due to travel to Mumbai for work, would I get BB any cheaper in mumbai than NCR and if yes, where from ?
no clue :(

e. The memory on both can be increased using SD card, whats maximum memory for either of the models ?

32GB

would suggest you pick it up here. Redington stocks have 18months warranty and handsets out of warranty are tough to get them serviced here.

One question.
Is it possible to pair Nokia bluetooth headset with BB?
I have Nokia "Super Mini" Bluetooth headset and use BB Storm 9530. Is it possible to pair them? I tried, but not been able to do it.

Can anybody shed some light on this?
Thanks.
