Yes, The touch pad scrolls very fast on opera Browser a bit too fast for anyone's liking. And if you reduce the sensitivity then it such for every other application.

I don't think fring is yet available for BB

Done as been stated.
Now when i tried updating from bbdm5 it shows the update but when i click it it says- you do not have an active blackberry service subscription without which update cannot be done. Gives me this link- http://us.blackberry.com/dataplans.jsp
Now what

Isn't the vodafone 599 unlimited data plan enough?

@johnda that means there is a browser message. Please go to messages>BBkey>folders>browser messages should be in there!

Urgent

I'm about to upgrade my 8520 to OS 5 today. I've downloaded 2 versions - .509 (Wind Hellas) and .592 (Redington India official).

However I remember from my last upgrade that there was a major problem with the Bluetooth functionality. I had upgraded to .592 and the bluetooth used to frequently keep disconnecting on its own. And this happened with both my car speakerphone unit (Jabra SP 700) as well as headset (Jabra BT 150).

That was the reason I downgraded back to OS 4.6

Has anyone else faced this problem? And if this is a common problem, is there an OS 5 version that DOESNT have this problem?

Please reply urgently.

I have been on .592 for the last few months and faced no issues with connectivity or any other features.

Urgent help needed - upgrade to OS 5 gone wrong

Mates - I upgraded my 8520 to OS 5 (.900) yesterday. Everything went smoothly except 2 major points, which I noticed after the restore operation was complete.

1. Both my Gmail accounts were restored, but without a SINGLE mail in them.
However, my other email a/cs (work, Yahoo, Hotmail) were restored perfectly well with every email.

I tried to restore just the messages database from an earlier backup file (i.e. not the backup created by the Loader.exe just before the upgrade). However, same old problem there as well.

(Could this be because on OS 4.6.314, I didnt have "Enhanced Gmail Plugin" installed, whereas OS 5 comes with that functionality pre-installed?)

2. My calendar has slowed down like crazy. It takes a good 3-4 seconds to open up after clicked. This was not the case on OS 4.6.

The weird thing is that if I wipe the calendar and open a fresh calendar (i.e. without any entries) it opens up in a snap. But as soon as I restore my calendar database, it takes ages to open up.

(Could my calendar database be corrupted? If yes, what's the way to restore my entries to the new OS?)

**********************************************
I then did a security wipe of device (emails, contacts etc.) and tried a different upgrade - OS 5.00.592 (Redington India official). The same two problems persist.

Please suggest me what to do. I tried the usual tricks - reboot, battery pull, re-sending service books etc. But nothing has worked so far.

FYI - I'm on Vodafone BIS 599 UL plan (post paid).

Persistence paid.
Finally upgraded to OS 5.
Running smoothly as of now.
The steps for others who wish to upgrade i used-

1)you should have the Blackberry desktop manager:
you can update for your desktop manager or download it free from blackberry website. I had V.5.0.1 when i upgraded OS.

2)you should download the firmware. it is better to download from blackberry website.

3) after download. install this exe file. donot run desktop manager yet

4) goto C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
and delete vendor.xml

5) now run your blackberry desktop manager.
goto application loader . then goto update software.
after it initialize your phone will show you it is recommended to update to os 5 BUT when you want to continue it will show you that "no update needed" or "you should be subcribed user to update" SO
wait
do not close this page.

6) go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
and run loader.exe now

7) in the list choose what you want to install.(here you will see the blackberry OS5 is ticked already)

8)complete your install. it takes some time (for me around 10 min)

9) then your device will be restarted and as in first run it takes more than 5 mins to start.

Ok so this is what I finally ended up doing.

1. Took a *selective* backup of just contacts, calendar, Browser bookmarks and BBM contact list

2. Logged into Vodafone BIS site on my PC and deleted all the associated email accounts

3. Wiped the phone clean using BBSAK (BlackBerry Swiss Army Knife)

4. Installed a clean (official) OS 5.0.0.900

Package Version: 5.0.0.1626
Applications: 5.0.0.900
Software Platform: 5.2.0.96

5. After the firmware was loaded, restored contacts, calendar, Browser bookmarks and BBM ONE-BY-ONE

At this point, I figured that OS 5 (all versions) indeed have a bug in the calendar app. If the default view is set to "Agenda" (as it was in my case), the calendar takes a good 4-5 seconds to open up. However, once I change the view to "Date" or "Month", it opens up in a snap. Since the calendar was restored from the same backup file in all 3 above mentioned cases, I deduced that backup is not corrupt per se.

6. Logged into Vodafone BIS site on my PC again and set-up email accounts one by one
