Seems to be model specific. Doesnt work on a 8900 either.

Simple advice:
Try cleaning your camera. Use a damp tissue first & then a dry one. Generally this happens due to accumulation of dirt on top of the lens or scratches on it. A lot of people dont realise that they get hazy pictures just because they dont bother to clean the lens properly every now & then.
If its due to scratches, you cannot do anything about it.

But in my case the entire display has become a bit dark even though the brightness is set at 100.
If you come across any solution then do post here.
EDIT: If your phone is still in warranty then give it to the authorized service center. They will repair it for free.
Check if the 8520 has a light sensor, i doubt the 8520 has it, but those things adjust brightness on their own.
Btw, nice signature. Very innovative

Press and hold alt, then press and hold the capitalize button and then press del and it should restart it.

No I don't think the 8520 comes with a light sensor. And my screen stays dark always even though the brightness is always 100.
I even compared with 2 other 8520s and indeed there seems to be some problem with my phone's screen.

Oops we have got the same signature !

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

Guys - I need a quick help here. I'm deactivating my BB plan as I'm moving to Android. However, I'm going to retain the BB 8520 as a secondary phone with a full fledged GPRS connection.

I just wish to know - what settings to use so that I can use it as a normal phone? I don't wish to use push mail.

I'm on Vodafone Mumbai.

Don't think it would be possible. You need to have BIS activated.

I had used my 8520 for some days without BIS. The inbuilt browser did not work without BIS so I installed Opera Mini Browser and used it without any issues at all. Regular Vodafone GPRS charges were applied i.e. 10p/10kb.

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

Bye folks. Finally sold my 8330 (CDMA) and have defected to Android. Will miss the Blackberry - excellent interface, brilliant fonts. It was done in by the poor interchangeability with other platforms. As it stands even Samsung have problems - Kies does not work with the Epic 4G (Galaxy on CDMA) and is almost as bad with the Samsung Galaxy 551 (You cannot get the directory). All the same it was good as long as it lasted.

Why did you not activate international roaming before you left India? Is BBM not working over WiFi also?

You should have activated International roaming from India itself. Now see if you can use BBM through wifi or if you are going to stay there for a longer period of time then buy a new sim card and activate BB services.

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

Non BIS users will need to use the inbuilt wap browser navigate to browser>options>general properties and change to wapbrowser/live browser.

For bis users follow the same steps and swap to internet browser for EDGE usage and hotsopt browser for wifi usage.

This works for the icon called browser *ONLY* none of the others. It is the browser that will open when you click on links in emails or fb or twitter.

For international travellers using data services is *EXTREMELY* expensive please get yourself a local sim. None of the default wifi programs will work via wifi they need BBM/PIN and your phone connected to a data network with a BBM plan.
