I am not sure on battery mgmt in bold 9900, but i believe 9790 and 9900 use same capacity battery and from what i have heard from a friend who uses a 9790, battery life is below avg.

Any actual users in the house should be able to shed more light.

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

9900 will get you through the day provided of course you upgrade OS to the latest [on 2g]

Otherwise it will be all said and done by 4PM.

But on 3G man oh man it is a battery drainer. I had to keep mine on 2G and switch over to 3G when i had to get some browsing done. Like for example, with 3G data tethered with my laptop plugged to USB, the battery does not get charged. The USB just about manages to hold the battery from dropping.

How does your daily usage looks like sir? I use multi-tasking a lot on my bb. On my office commute and back, I listen to music + check n reply e-mails / browse sites (on the pathetic browser) / FB / twitter / whatsapp. Apart from that, 1hr approx phone calls + M-F calendar reminders.

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

That will be good. Like i said your 3G usage if any will be the battery drainer. Other than that it lasts the day quite safely.

But i do have a spare battery in the bag always

Good idea to carry a spare. Is that a spare charger as well or do you charge the spare in your phone itself? Share the cost as well if you can recall.

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

My nephew gifted me a Q10 yesterday, I am told it needs 3G for data. Why? All I ever do on Blackberry is read email (rarely reply). Why does email need 3G?

Don't think the Q10 needs 3G. I'm sure it can work on 2G too. Though you may start using some other features if you do have 3G

Apparently (this is what I am told) with 2G I have to use mobile internet services (like they do on iPhone or Android devices) for email but with 3G I can avail of Blackberry email services. Blackberry services over 2G for the Q10 are still not available.

Damn, this is confusing.

Akshay remember you are helping someone who uses the mobile when he is mobile (aka not at my desk or at home). Otherwise the mobile is just my address book and calendar (thanks to face book I don't have to remember birthdays anymore either). I don't take pictures, I don't play games, I still use SMS (even though I often have the person on BBM or Whatsapp).

As far as I know, with the new BB 10 phones there is no need for a separate BB plan. You can just choose any of the iPhone or Andriod plans
https://www.vodafone.in/3gworld/page...s.aspx?cid=mum
Like these and everything on your BB will work.

Yes you are right. I wonder why they don't have a BB plan like they have for the older Blackberrys. The older BB plan was cheaper for my "just email" use.

Wont a normal BIS plan work? something like

BIS 299 Upto 10 email a/c´s, Instant messaging

Or you need a dedicated plan for the newer BB's?

What Vodaphone tells me is that BIS plans will not work on the Q10. I have to get a Mobile Internet plan like those who have iPhones and Andorid devices do.

Right now Vodaphone has moved me to a plan that costs 450 per month. That's Rs. 150 per month more than my earlier plan.
Monthly plan 450
Allowance (MB) : 2 GB
Validity (Days) : 30 days
Charges on usage beyond allowance within validity :2p/10 KB

But if 3G isnt mandatory why dont you ask them to move you to a 2G plan.

Something like

Rental : 199
Benefit : 2GB
Validity : 1 Billcycle
Charges Post Pack Benefit : Unlimited surfing at 40kbps

Vodaphone insits 3G is mandatory for the Q10.

I cant understand why one would need 3G to download email which is usually simple small files (unlike movies and stuff like that).
