Re: NOKIA N900 - RAW Computer!!!!

Hey that is interesting.

I currently own a Nokia 5800 and am pretty happy with it. However, I have been contemplating to upgrade and have ever been smitten by N 900.

Could you please answer these questions for me:

1) Did you try to multi boot?

2) Did you try installing MeeGo?

3) Did you try it with the gingerbread port?

4) How is the music quality?

5) Are there any issues with Wifi/ Bluetooth?

6) Did you try over clocking the processor?

7) Any other OS?

8) How much did you buy it for?

I am a big fan of Linux and its endless possibilites and was amazed at the capabilites of N900. My friend has been trying to install 5 OSes on this (as shown in a Youtube video) lets see if he would be successful.

I have been waiting to buy a class 10 16GB microSD card to try these out.
Basically i want to try out the u-boot approach rather than multiboot (where you reflash the kernal image every time you boot into different OSes). Shall update the experience, once I do that.

I have always used FM Transmitter to stream the music from the device.
Very useful feature I would say.
I dont need to carry around any other devices for carrying my music. Plus anywhere I go, there would be atleast one FM receiver and hence instant hook up.
Also, I have some internet radio stations configured in the device. And hence, even those songs could be FM-ed to older devices. A perfect marriage of latest technology with latest one.
Only downside here is, it needs a decent internet connection (wifi or 3G) and hence works only at my home network now.

Only down side with FM tranmitter is, it wont work if you are charging the device or rather FM quality deteriorate considerably.

No issues. Once I switched to N900, my entire browsing takes place thru this device. I havent touched the laptop at home ever since.

Re: NOKIA N900 - RAW Computer!!!!

you can have FM Radio too, there is app available in the Devel-extra that enables the FM Radio, its done by starting the Bluetooth, but radio is functional have done that on my device, you can use the Extra Kernel available that also support the USB host feature, provided you have appropriate USB cable[N8 usb on go cable works], the FM transmitter hack application is also available that extend the application for more range as well as for charging mode hack.
This is a great hacker device with built in root mode, install the rootsh and you are on your own to do lot more with the device.
