which one to pick? How is the IQ between these two? I wont use this for anything that requires high speed focusing. how are the range of lenses?
What is the major advantage/disadvantage when comparing these models?
the price after discounts are very close, so price is not a factor to consider for now.
This might be of use to you!

If you could stretch your budget, I would recommend you to go for the Sony A6000.

Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

Go for the A6000. There were quite a few deal in the us this week.

The A6000 is very good for its price and the AF is spot on for a Mirror less. This is one of the best AF i have used in recent times on a mirrorless.

But i use mirrorless for all 1960's lenses and waiting to get my hands on a A7II which makes a 1960 lens IS enabled. Really thrilled!!

A couple of my friends bought the A6000 during the Black Friday period.

Just thought I would visit the dark side (the mirrorless thread). Impressed with IQ and performance of mirrorless cameras. I had met Samurai during a function, and the photos he took have come out very well. Of course, I am not factoring in photographer skill here - just considering high ISO performance and AF in bad light, that too from a sensor smaller than a Canon/Nikon cropped sensor.

And we are talking about a camera that was released in Feb 2012, almost 3 year old tech.

To elaborate a bit, I was standing 30ft away from the dance action, leaning on the side wall at 3rd row in a dark auditorium. Obviously no flash, I was depending on the ambient light on the stage. And I mostly used the 45mm F/1.8 lens, all shots were handheld.

Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

The A6000 is quite a camera at its price range. The deals went all the way to 500 for the camera and couple of lens kits. To be brutally honest, actual users hardly use ISO more than ISO1600. If you are not printing like 8*12 regularly and are using it for web sharing and online storage you can use almost the max end of the ISO in these camera to gain the required shutter speed.

I constantly shoot over ISO3200 and usually convert them to B&W which means the grains sometimes add nice little filmy touch.

Another good thing about mirrorless is the ability to take other lenses with an adaptor. Imagine a 1961 limited edition canon 0.95 coming back to life in flying colors. I use this lens now so much that i am in a trans were waiting for the A7II and sold my mirrorless

The other camera set i am super impressed in the Fuji line. That fuji line of cameras are absolutely super impressive that i usually recommend the Fuji X-E2 with an 18-55 which will beat the living day and night out of any standard camera set up from any camera lines. I mean canon with its 18-55 can hardly match what the fuji can produce.

In fact full frame can be a little exaggerated once you try the fuji in many cases. I am a big time used camera buyer and i picked up a 5D mark II for bloody cheap. less than half the going price. And i have a fuji X-e1 that my wife uses which i traded and upgraded to X-e2 for less than 10k.

The best part about fuji is their native lenses. They are small, light and so portable.

Heck i ditch all my canon equipments when i am touring and carry simply the fuji with its 18-55. The greatest travel kit. X-E2 is twice faster though and with Wifi.

What we actually need is a sony sensor on a fuji body with olympus 5 axis stabilization and a custom mount capable store. That way i can get a canon mount and use all my canon lenses

Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

Hi! is anyone using the Nikon 1 camera system with the Nikon FT-1 lens adapter that allows you to mount select AF-S nikkor lens on the 1 ?

I'm using a Nikon 1 J3, and would like to purchase the adapter.

Looking for any user experience with this adapter.

thanks
Srinivas

Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

Open the lens and clean. Everytime you clean you will strip of some coatings. Secondly give it to local professionals who may probably have a vacuum set up to avoid dust getting back into the lens.

Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

I got the GX7 with 20mm F1.7 lens. My friend carried it for me from UK.

Now, I am looking for a small camera bag.

I will need to save some money to buy Lumix G Vario 14-140mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens zoom lens for some wildlife photography- perhaps at the end of the year.

Is there some good forum where I can buy second hand lens?

Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

With EM-5 Mark II supposed launch this month, EM-5 is going really cheap.
I took one. Body only. And got 25mm f1.8 lens for it.
And this is so much of a camera that I really do not see myself learning all of the possibilities.
I do not see EM-5 Mark II or even EM-10 to be significantly better unless you are a real professional. So might be a good idea to get one of the EM-5 while stocks are getting cleared and save for yourself some money.

Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

I am quite happy with the Olympus 25mm f1.8.
It takes a bit of rap for the price tag it has. And add to that Pana Leica 25mm f1.4 breathing down its neck. Pana Leica is a bit too big. You might as well take the Nikon DSLR with 50mm lens.

But I will say 25mm f1.8 is just right on the EM-5. And it comes with a lens hood too !!!
The lens is not metal. But build is decent. I have dropped EM-5 with 25mm (lens hood attached) from table on the the carpeted floor. And it survived. And the camera too.

Excuse the lack of talent from my side.
With EM-5, one really has to be talented to take awful pics.

There goes the resale value of my EM-5. Wife was interested in A6000 and we were waiting for somebody to carry it back from USA. But then we had a guest who had a A6000. When she noticed it was as big as EM-5 and photographs were nowhere close to our EM-5, she dropped the idea. I told her it is not fair to compare the Sony 16-50mm kit lens to my 12-40mm PRO lens, but she has totally lost interest in A6000. Looks like I will upgrade to the next Olympus body and give the EM-5 to wife.

I thought that from EM-5, the upgrade would be EM-1. I still feel that after having EM-5, getting EM-5 Mark II is not such a great idea.
Unless you already have EM-1.
And congrats on that PRO 12-40mm lens. Me jealous.

My need is not really an upgrade, rather I need a replacement since my wife wants the EM5 for herself.

I can still consider the EM1, but is it already old. It is also bigger than the EM5 series. The only advantage it holds over EM5 II is phase detect AF.

Anyway, I am not in any hurry. I'll wait for full reviews to come out.
