You might want to try a film rangefinder like the Canonet QL17 etc to see if you like the RF experience as it's manual focus. It's simple but not everyone likes it and lack of AF is one reason why many people don't buy Leica cameras.

Very true. Most of the time I use the manual mode on my NEX 6. I want to first get a good hold of shooting manual mode. I would do that atleast for the next 2 years and see how I progress. I would then decide on my FF mirrorless camera. It does not necessarily be a Leica M. With the current market offerings, it is the Leica M for now.

Some of my recent snaps are posted at the following link!

Rangefinder makes it easy to focus. I prefer it over focus peaking. So far, focus peaking has yielded me so-so results and I depend on magnification over peaking as I know for sure.

I think he means manual focus, not manual exposure mode.

It is for camcorders the zoom lever is however located on the lens. The SEL18200 is also originally meant for camcorders and is kit lens for NEX VG-XX camcorders. For still use Sony has launched the rebadged tamron 18-200 called SEL18200LE but the tamron own VC is superior to that of the Sony OSS.

First and formost even in USA its sold only as part of kit with camcorder. So I doubt sony is pushing it for nex cameras.
Secondly, the Sony 18-200(non LE) version costs same as the LE version(Rebadged tamrom) and also has active stabilization which is great for video. The LE does not have active stabilization.

Both the SEL18200LE and the older SEL18200 have active Image stabilization sony calls it OSS ,where as tamron own version comes with a faster VR.

Like i said the SEL18200 is part of the camcorder kit lens which is why Sony launched the LE version specifically for NEX still cameras.

The SEL18200 again imo will be replaced by the power zoom version, since it shares the same filter size and lens elements as the new Power zoom version.

Guys Sony has just slashed the price of the NEX3 to MRP 14990 and NEX5 to MRP 19990 and their street prices should be even cheaper, thats a quite a steal it has APS-C sensor and NEX-5 gets a magnesium alloy body.

It's available nowhere. I have inquired at all Sony World showrooms in NCR; and other camera shops too...

JJmehta online store has the NEX 5 in stock ,they haven't updated the price in their website yet but worth a try.Dealers are saying the price was reduced some time back and was only now reflected in the Sony website,I guess people who had visited the stores in the last month might have just emptied the stock.

NEX 5 is a very old camera. Even NEX-5N is now old. Thats the problem with sony. Even after more than an year of launch, they did not bring the NEX-5N, and kept trying to dispose of the old models here.

I came across this very interesting article. Haven't read that yet completely.

But from the periphery of it, l understand that this is some sort of a technology to get the FF effect from crop sensors. Looks like an interesting idea.

True but glad they launched the NEX5r now and not the older NEX5n.But on the A-mount cameras they have been very aggressive in the Indian market. The price i paid for my SLT was lower than the price in the US at that time.

Nex-5 had many quirks. The 5N fixed most of those. Its avaialble in USA for 400$ approx(kit lens). Try to get that one instead.
However, I would recommend a Panasonic GX1 for your wife(400$ again).

I believe he is talking about the price in India and the GX1 costs around 34k in india. The 5n was reported to have "click" sound .

I came across this interesting deal today on the Sigma E mount lens.

http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/two-s...ne-at-bhphoto/

Looks like a steal given the IQ of the 30mm lens.

IIRC, The 'Click' sound was rectified by Sony through a firmware update.
