Well, a few weeks back a member on JJMehta photography forum's Buy/Sell thread (which I browse thru regularly looking for deals) was selling a Leicatime half case with his Fuji X100.

Now the camera was sold but not the case. The OP put it up for a sale at an heart stopping Rs 18,000. I cant imagine too many people paying that kind of money for a half case. Curiosity got the better of me and I headed over to the Leicatime site. Very impressive stuff indeed. Immaculately made, undoubtedly superb 5 star products.

But at Euro 200-250/case i.e. say 400-500 Euros or about INR 32-41K (not including Shipping, Customs Duties etc.), for 2 cameras, I will be in very deep trouble at home (really!!) if my wife finds out how much these cases cost. Good grief, to put that in perspective even the most expensive of my Lowepro bags cost a fraction what that silly half case costs.

+1

There are some good cases on eBay from TP, Kenji and Gariz at about $100/each. Again lovely stuff..not as good as the Italian Leicatime cases, yet I simply cannot bring myself to buy one. Rather buy something more useful.

I'll keep looking for cases made of alternative materials.

Dumped the idea of a leather case totally. Instead I'll get an A-S camera plate for the XE1 at a later date. Costs less and is more useful.

I had purchased one for the Oly earlier this year. Mounted the plate back on the Oly today and plan to leave it on permanently. It's not an ideal solution but it does provide very slightly better grip as it increases the height of the camera by about 1 cm or 1/2". Wonder why I didn't think of this earlier. Silly me!

Considering the lower expense & added practicality of an A-S plate versus that of a beautiful leather case, the plate wins hands down.

Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

Where would the following camera type qualify? In the Mirrorless or Cameraless forum?

http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr5-h...-lens-cameras/

Looks like Sony is betting big on such game changing products!

what's A-S plate?

Considering that these cameras get really hot (and even shutdown) when taking videos, I am not inclined to use any cover. I put mine in a waist bag with 18-55 mounted and 50mm lens. No neck/back pains.

An Arca-Swiss plate. You get Quick Release plates that fit onto cameras or a lens foot. You also get replacement lens feet for telephoto lenses.

This foot or plate fits into a quick release clamp. The clamp mounts onto a ball head which in turn is fitted to a tripod. This will explain the system better.

Oh well, I don't shoot videos but it does get a bit warm after extended use.

IMO its in the ML forum because it doesn't have a mirror. Sony has always been inventive & sometimes a game changer (Walkman, Trinitron picture tube, etc.), but unfortunately their some of their cutting edge inventions don't really catch on.

Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

My camera is with my wife as a P&S for the new born. The best decision i took is to buy the fuji. I am not turning back.

I have a 1d but the fuji is the new gen and i will add a new gen Canon pretty soon.

Fuji stays in the bed with the 18-55. I will mostly add the 55-200 as i a seeing some rave reviews for this beautiful lens.

I may end up collecting a whole lot of Fujinon soon where i am interested in the 35mm and 23mm F1.4 and may be the super wide as well

A Canon 1D series DSLR? Nice! Which Canon are you planning to add? The M mirrorless camera?

I have only 3 Fuji lenses - the 18-55 kit lens, 14mm 2.8 and 34mm 1.4. I love the 35mm. The kit lens is anything but a cheapo kit lens like the ones we see with Canikon. These Fuji lenses are beautifully made and have great performance. Adding the 55-200 is not an option right now.

These MLC companies, especially Fuji, really try to please their customers and listen to feedback.

A full frame. Sell some zooms i have and get into primes. Reduce canon Kit and increase Fuji kit.

Want to get a 35mm either sigma or fujinon and a 150mm macro from sigma.

Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

Nikon increased its prices by ~5% on some products mainly lenses. Canon may follow or has already hiked prices. I guess MLC prices will also go up?

Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

Zzzzzzz! This thread seems to be snoring and be dropping down day by day to the bottom of the screen. Time to give it a dose of adrenaline.

Here's a purported photo of the NEW $1500 Olympus E-M1

Expected Sept '13.

http://www.43rumors.com/all-images-o...ke-the-camera/

Some specs:

1) A 16MP sensor with no AA filter and PDAF on sensor.
2) ISO 200 up to 25,600
3) 9fps
4) 60sec and 1/8000
5) Same VF-4 EVF (although in the video the Olympus rep says the wrong number).
6) Built-in Wifi

The video:

http://uploaded.net/file/9pf6imwp

PS - I looked at the video. Verdict is I LIKE Look at the handy ergonomic grip and the PDAF on sensor + a new EVF. This should be a beauty. I expect the price to be between 1-1.2L. Comon Oly! Surprise us with a lower price tag!

Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

That on sensor PDAF better be really good for that price.
It could have the second generation On sensor PDAF thats supposed to come in all Sony future mirrorless cameras.

Agreed. They claim its a pro camera. Hope it lives up to the "leaked" info. Lets see how it performs in the real world. It wont be too long before we get some reviews.

PS - it's at the price of a full frame camera.

Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

Anyone looking at the Fuji Xpro1, there is a sweet deal from a private customer of Camshot Pune, that I came to know of when I ordered the Sony Rx100ii. Mint condition body plus the three Fuji primes - 18,35 and 60mm - for 120k, one year warranty left. I was tempted for a moment, but there wasn't any way I was going to have two systems, having invested in an extensive d7000 Nikon based one, so sense prevailed. Even in some kind of exchange for the Fuji one as was offered. The d7000 is a brilliant picture taker of all kinds of subjects, whereas the Fuji wouldn't be that kind of all rounder. And my lust for the Fuji picture taking feel and results is satisfied by the x100.
Thought someone here might be interested, hence this post.

Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

Very serious - I have sent you the mobile number on pm. I suspect the seller will sell as a kit only, the body plus three primes. He has moved on to a Sony Rx1. I would think you can do some beating down on the price too, Fujis of this type are not easy to sell used.
Do you need to enable PM? I can't see the option.
