Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

Folks having the Sony NEX-5R

What is the current firmware you are on ?

Mine says
----------------------
Body: NEX-5R
Ver. 1.01

Lens/Mount Adapter
Ver. 01
---------------------

I see the Sony website has Lens Ver 02
However when I try to update , after detecting the cam it says

The update is not available for your model. Update process aborted.

Have you experienced this ?

Don't bother with the NEX 6. You get NEX 5 with 16-50mm also. Fillmore and myself picked one up last last week. 38K but Croma has a cash back offer on HDFC credit card.

I got mine from RK Photo for 38K.

You can check with Croma or RK Photo. 38K will include 4GB SD card and a camera bag.

The NEX 6 is 47-48K and the only additional feature is a mode dial and a electronic view finder.

AFAIK 18-55 has built in IS.

Hmm, I see it does. I stand corrected. The listing at Camshot.in has skipped the OSS in the lens name.

Still 16-50mm is a more useful range than 18-55mm. It gives 24mm effective instead of 27mm at the wide end.

Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

Sony has just announced the new NEX-5T internationally. Minimal changes with the 5R except for NFC capability and UI tweaks.

If your looking at picking up a NEX wait for the 5R prices to drop once the 5T is out anf get the older 5R. Or else the best option is to get the new NEX 3N.

My concern is, when taking pictures outdoor in too much sunlight, will we get to see clear enough without a viewfinder? I have never tried using nex cameras outside, but with some cameras I did face slight issues while taking pictures and sunlight falls on the lcd screen.
Have you faced any such issues?

Well I dont know how long he will have to wait before the prices drop .

I don't know how useful NFC is going to be though on the 5T.

Btw, my wife feels this cam can be used as an excellent baby monitor.
- Install 'Smart Remote Control' app on the Cam [Free]
- Install 'Play Memories Mobile' on your smart phone [Free]
- You have a baby monitor, where you can monitor + click snaps from the smartphone.

Even better (Quick monitor the kids/maid when you go out )
- Install Sony Timelapse on the Camera [$10 I think]
- Set it up for a 3hr 10sec interval capture
- Come back and you have a quick view video in fast forward of what happened when you were away.

Never faced any issues on my 5 year old Panasonic point and shoot. Have shot in bright sun most of the time and no issues on the screen. NEX is an even better screen and I'm sure it will be as good if not better.

Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

I doubt there will be a price drop considering the dollar rate.If anything expect a price increase.

I think the new Sony cameras come with White Magic lcd tech which has a white sub pixel which increases the brightness to as high as 900+ cd/m2.

If you don't fancy an EVF and the mode dial in the NEX-6, you would be better off buying the NEX 5R. Though I personally own the NEX-6, I find the IQ rendering of the NEX 5 to be a bit better.

Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

Is this the next version of the famous OM-D from Olympus?

http://www.mirrorlessrumors.com/one-more-e-m1-image/

Or is this a stripped down version of the OM-D EM-5? Going by the name of it, looks like it is lower in specs compared to that of the EM-5. I seriously don't like that VF in the middle. I would prefer that to be on the right side. That was just one reason why I did not go for the OM-D EM-5.

Thats not a replacement but a rather a higher spec PRO version of OMD-EM5 .It will have fast fps,On sensor phase detect AF and will cost around $1500 .

Would it also have a bigger sensor? When it has a higher spec., then why name it EM-1?
