Re: frankmehta wants ® an Ultraportable: 12-13" Lightweight Laptop

I am going to pay 12- 15 % duty PLUS 4 k shipping. That still makes it a cracker of a deal @40k.
I am DYING to configure the different lights via the Alienware Command Centre.
What a contrast from what I wanted. LOL.
I was looking for a laptop that will actually look staid and business like, being light and portable enough to carry for conferences. And look a little 'doctor-like' at them.
Now, LOOK at what I have done!

Re: frankmehta wants ® an Ultraportable: 12-13" Lightweight Laptop

Wow, thats surely overpriced
You get a slow graphics card, slower than an 5650, which is easily available on low end laptops in USA.
+ you get get a non core i5/i7 processor and all for $728!!

$700 can buy you a 14" laptop with a 5650 card!

However, if you want a 13" or smaller, Alienware is the only option out there with a dedicated card.

But remember, with a 335M even older games which came out in 2006-2005 cannot run in high settings.

Got it, it is the L650. Thanks man.

@frankmehta,

How do you pay for stuff in currency other than INR. Is it as simple as using your credit/debit cards (issued on an Indian address) or do you go via your bank to effect a telegraphic transfer.

The only time I tried to buy some stuff for my car, the site declined to accept any card except those issued on a US address.

some sites do accept international credit cards, some require shipping address to be in US with billing address same as shipping address. Look through the FAQ of sites for exact info

Looks like the order got cancelled due to some credit card verification issues.
I think the Alien is going to get out of my hands this time :-(
So much excitement, and this happens!

Many US websites do not accept foreign CC due to fraud issues.

You can use paypal or google checkout for payment most websites accept atleast one of them and it works perfectly from India

Ditto. Also, you get yesterday's technology as 2nd generation processors have hit the shelves already.

Buying an Alienware and not being able to play future games doesn't sound good. Does it? Majority of laptops are non-scalable. Which means you are stuck with you've got and very limited (read "hardly any") options to upgrade. So, after spending all that money you can only play what you (may) have already played.

You want a laptop basically for day to day use, I'd rather suggest you go for normal laptop than a gaming one. But then again it your choice, its your money...

Re: frankmehta wants ® an Ultraportable: 12-13" Lightweight Laptop

ALIENWARE is out guys. Too much trouble with dell. Besides it looked like they just don't wanna take my order. I even went as far as having a friend in USA pay for me online. Even THAT order got cancelled.
But I have no remorse. I do have a surprise. But not telling till I sort out all formalities. I tell you, it will just make you go ooooooooooooh :-)
let's hope payment goes off well. Paypal sucks and so does their silly payment system. I am now waiting for my final payment. Will do it within two to three days
but I repeat again. It's going to be something HOT :-)
