I don't want to burst anyone's bubble, (in fact I'd want two or three of these myself at this price) but since this is a govt-subsidized device mainly intended as an educational aid, I don't think it will be available to the general public for as low as Rs. 1500, if at all.

This price would be for schools, educational institutions, charities etc working in rural/poor areas.

I'd be happy if it was available to the general public even at 6-7k!

Knowing HCL's track record with their sub par laptops and tablets, I'm not expecting any magic @ Rs.1500...I can very well speculate that this is going to be some crappy screen with a mirror like resistive TS overlay and powered by an anemic processor.

For my needs, I don't mind paying 7-10K per tablet as long as it comes with a good 7" or 9" screen and a reasonably fast processor. The ones available abroad on eBay @ $99 has really crappy processors.

This isn't even made by HCL or anyone from IIT. Some Chinese manufacturer's tablet.

Its believed to be designed by IISc and some IITs. Could be manufactured by Chinese. HCL was supposed to market (or make it later) it.

There was quick review of sakshat done at ndtv gadget guru program, sometime back. even sibal was present on the show.
rajiv - the host, was pretty happy to see the functioning.
so please dont treat this as a crap machine.

Keeping fingers crossed as govt is involved in this.

Now I doubt, is it going to be a product in market or only news item? As,
No clue to dealers (so far 2 I have tried).
No clue to HCL's website. To a surprise the 24 hrs helpline numbers mentioned on the corporate website are also not working.
No clue to one of my friend who is HCL employee.

Ok, when i saw the first post even i was excited. If i want a simple 9'' screen alone to use it for whatever, i may have to shell out more probably. But getting a fully functional, decently loaded device at that price is pretty good

However, when i checked the websites, i thinkg, it may not be available to general public. It says it is being distributed by the HRD to institutions only

I just dont believe this. If they can provide one tablet with that specifications for the general public i will be convinced. And the article that its a chinese product which has had a makeover in india and will be subsidized by the government is closer to the truth. Just google hivision and you will know the rest.
