Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

Finally my year old Motorola Xoom MZ 601 (GSM version) gets ICS 4.0.4 from HC 3.2, better late than never as already its wifi sibling is on Jelly bean.

OS user experience is a bit more smoother and faster.

Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

Anyone here with a Notion Ink Adam who has upgraded to ICS?

Noob questions:
- How does one mount and unmount USB pendrives (through the GUI, not Terminal mode)? I tried yesterday, it worked once (automatic mount, no messages) but after that one time it didn't recognize it at all
- Anyone used a Reliance (CDMA) or BSNL (3G, Huawei dongle) on ICS (especially NI Adam)? Where does one get drivers?

Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

Hello,

Pls suggest a VFM tab within 10K. I have been looking for Micromax Fun book PRO, but it seems to have no bluetooth, locked to TATA Photon dongle feature. Alternatively Huawei is planning to launch Media Lite 7 tab(complete specs & pricing not available yet) which includes SIM card calling facility too(though may be priced above Fubbook PRO). Also in race is Karbon Smart TAb1 with 4.1 Jelly bean and 10" dsiplay.

Thanks

Re: iPad-ed !!!!

If you are not a die hard fan of apple or android..and if you can wait for couple more months ..then take a look at this Surface by Microsoft. Its quite different . They could release it at a lower price to catch up.

  • iPad mostly dependent on iTunes, i somehow dislike that.
  • Are enough free games available on iPad?
  • Does it play all sorts of Videos, i believe VLC player now works on iPad.
  • Whats the difference between iPad2 and iPad3?
  • Finally, Samsung used to have good tablets, looks like they are stopping that range as most are older models with LCD display.

I am also in the market for a low cost TAB with 3G SIM and calling facility.

HCL ME Y2 and Iberry AX03G both the TAB are new in the market. HCL is available in shops now. But Iberry AX03G is not available currently. I have talked with iBerry customer care. They told me that, AX03G TAB will available in market from 3rd week of AUG-2012.

I have gathered below information for these two TAB.

Note :- These information collected from 2-3 websites.

Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

Calling all Android gurus of Team BHP

I have a problem, I have a Veedee D10 Tablet, its the same as Micromax Funbook, I bought a Huwaei unlocked 1731 3G dongle from ebay, inserted a BSNL sim card, the tablet although compatible to the 1731, detects it a Damaged SD card, any clues as to what could be the problem?. Otherwise the tab works smoothly with wifi. Before connecting it to the Tab, i switched of the Wifi, data and roaming enabled in the tab.

The same dongle works like a charm on my PC

Heads up guys, the Samsung Tab 8.9" is out of production and is mostly out of stock everywhere.

https://www.flipkart.com/samsung-gal...BDACCGVQ8AF5AZ

Flipkart is selling it at 21000. A dawm good price considering,

1) Same resolution screen at Tab 2, upcoming Note 10.1
2) Dual Core Processor, 1 GB RAM
3) ICS Upgrade promised by Samsung
4) Inbuilt 3G
5) Slim and Light - 450 Grams only.

Only negative : No MicroSD Slot.

Hi:

Are you sure that these two have voice calling facility (I think that SIM is only for data, internet connectivity, I may be wrong)? As far as I am aware, voice call is only supported by Samsung Tab 2 and the tab model offered by Reliance. I would be keen to know if the HCL or the Iberry offer voice calling.

Regards

Hi,

The specs of iberry says it does support GSM 900/1800.

Auxus AX03G

Google Nexus(though would be priced higher) seems no sign of availability in India. That makes me to go towards iberry AX03g.

If any idea about Google Nexus launch in India is there then it could be worth waiting.

Thanks

I was sick of waiting for software updates from Motorola. So, I rooted it and upgraded mine to ICS around 3 months back. It was a nightly build though but was very stable.

This past month, I removed ICS and installed Jelly Bean. Jelly Bean is fast, slick, and feels like what Ice Cream Sandwich should have been when it first launched. Even with live wallpapers turned on, there is basically zero lag and scrolling between different home screens is amazingly smooth.

It truly is the smoothest version of Android yet !

Thats great man. Are you using the MZ601 build?

If so
1) What ROM are using, any links ?
2) Are you able to make phone calls through your Xoom?

Yes, mine is MZ601 build.

1) I am using ROM by Team EOS. Will send you the link later as I didn't bookmark it.

2) I am not sure. Honestly, I haven't even looked at this area. As for as I know, there is no phone hardware built into the xoom, only data hardware. So, I think it can only do voip type calls. I will look into this and will let you know if this is possible.
