Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

A few months ago, I decided to check out an unknown-brand tablet, which I shall call Brand E, in comparison to my Kindle Fire. The specs of the E tablet matched that of the Kindle Fire except that it has a single core processor and is lighter in weight. The E tablet costs about $100 while the Kindle Fire costs $200. From a user's perspective, the E tablet was great to use - it can connect to Ad hoc Wifi networks too, I have access to the Google Play Store, it has a microSD card slot, it has dual cameras, and it is lighter therefore easier to use. It is responsive except when installing apps, which is quite rare. The Kindle Fire includes the silk browser and a customized interface plus a dual core processor making it very responsive, and the battery was much more reliable than the E tablet. The battery of the E tablet was flaky - it would work perfectly well till it reached 50% but would then drop down suddenly to 12%.

Overall, my experience with the two was that I would pick the Kindle Fire for getting actual work done, such as responding to emails and reading. The E tablet is great when I just need to use it at a desk because of the battery issues, and can serve as a good second screen for email notifications and monitoring apps.

HP Unveils Android Consumer Tablet

Looks like HP has finally decided to go the Android way - though they mistakenly had released some TouchPads with Gingerbread way back.

Any news on launch of Galaxy note 8.0 in India. How much cheaper would it be than the 10.1?

Any other 8 inch tab that works well with a stylus for making diagrams etc. And projecting it onto a bigger screen?
Thanks in advance guys!

Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

Here I'm in search of a 'branded' 7" Tab with calling option (SIM slot for calling!).
All I could find is Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 3100.
What I don't like about this Tab is lack of scratch resistant glass.

Any suggestions guys?
Obviously looking for something which is value for money

Need your feedback, friends.

I always look at the SAR rating before I buy a mobile phone!.

Do I need to look at the SAR rating of a tablet before I buy one?

I have my eyes on the Micromax Funbook. It will be used for playing car games and internet browsing.

A screen guard should take care of that right? Cheap and easily replaceable solution too.

Yeah considered Lenovo Ideapad A2107 too however kept it aside for these reasons.
  1. TFT Screen (Samsung has PLS LCD which is equivalent of LG's IPS LCD)
  2. Chinese 'MKT' chipset (Samsung has Texas Intruments TI OMAP)
  3. Single core processor while Samsung has dual core
  4. Older GPU, PowerVR SGX531 while Samsung has never one PowerVR SGX540
Check out differences between these 2 GPU's on WIKI, quiet considerable.
  5. Samsung has more sensors then the Lenovo
  6. No TV out
  7. No flash support!
  8. Li-Ion 3550 mAh battery while Samsung has 4000 mAh

And above all I read in multiple reviews that Lenovo Ideapad A2107 has abysmal performance and awful low-resolution screen.

So I think that's enough to keep it aside

Alright, here is the update. I ordered Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 3100 and the same would be delivered before 23rd March.

Bought this for gifting purpose and using Samsung Galaxy S2 since it was launched, well over a year now, and I'm a satisfied Samsung Mobile customer!

Do tell us where your search stops

Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

Yesterday got myself TAB 2 7.0 (White), I am loving every bit of it.

With recent price reduction it was icing on the cake and got the Tab for Rs 15650/- from my friends shop, did not bother purchasing from online stores as till date he has given me best after sales service (if anything happens he himself takes it to service center)

Got a scratch guard for Rs 300/- and back cover for 500/- (white, very good quality)

Will try to post pictures in few days time.

To summarize its VFM TAB

This cable isnt compatible with this tab. The older 7.0 came with the TV-out feature, but the P3100 doesn't come with it. There are whole forum threads(international) that talk about this!
