The device itself is really good. Now I need to hunt for a good case to protect it.

This is for the missus and she is happy. The thing works as fast as you would want. Open multiple tabs on the browser, have a game or video running the background and anything else you would want, it does not slow down at all. So far, this is the most fluid experience of Android so far on any device that I have used.

So, comparing it to my Motorola Defy, this thing is a complete contrast.

Updated the Android version to 4.1.2 and setup Google and Samsung accounts.

Negatives:
Youtube always shows video in HD. No way to disable that so far.
No indicator to show that battery is charging or charged 100%.
Congrats!
With the Quad Core Processor and 2GB of RAM it sure promises great performance...
How much did you finally buy it for(without the cashback)?
and did it come with ICS out of the box?

Hows the Note 800 in terms of performance and usability? Are there many 10" specific apps in play store? I actually dont mind waiting for a month or 2 and invest in something like note 800. But again i feel for my basic useage i should just get a 32GB nexus. Very confusing it all is.
If you can wait for a while, please wait for the Note 8.0 tablet. It looks like a very promising device.

Last two days, lot of tinkering, downloads, updates etc. So far, nothing has crashed, lagged, or hung. So, 10/10 on that part.
Battery was down to 15% this morning. It took about 5 hours to get it to 100% with very minimal usage in the first hour. So, the battery takes a long time to charge even with 2 Amps of current.

Ordered a rotating case, OTG cable and gadgetshieldz full body protector film.
Looking for a keyboard dock (which Samsung has discontinued from production).
It is very strange that the keyboard dock for the Tab 10.1 is reported not compatible with Note 800 though both seem to have the same 30-pin connector.

About the Note:
The S-pen is wonderful. Hope we make good use of that. It has quite a few S-pen applications. Very good for kids to play around (e.g. coloring, drawing, etc).
The tablet is heavy for one hand use (650 grams) and not recommended for playing games keeping it in your lap.

We have not used the SIM slot so far, and do not intend to use either. The tablet is mostly at home and connected to WiFi.

Installed Sygic and activated the product this morning. GPS lock was instant. So, the GPS hardware is good - much faster locking than my Motorola Defy on JB.
So, this can be a good navigator - considering the screen size, the long battery backup and powerful CPU. The only downside is that we need to buy a floor mount for this instead of dashboard mount due to the weight. That mount costs around 10K.

Another potential upgrade is a 16GB mSD card, but at the moment the 11 GB of internal usable space seems enough. After the USB OTG cable comes in, perhaps we will evaluate the need to have a mSD card installed.

One thing I have not been able to figure out is how to turn off HD in Youtube. All videos start in HD resolution by default.
Seems this is a problem with iPads as well.
Any clues?

I paid 33.5K including 2.4% credit card charges. Expecting cash back of Rs. 5000 on this.

It came with JB 4.1.1. After that I upgraded it to 4.1.2. I don't think there will be any updates after this, unless we are very lucky.

I am not sure if I need to register the device on Samsung website or get the dealer stamp on the warranty card. Does anyone have experience with Samsung?

I picked this USB keyboard and tablet holder online as some long mails needed a physical keyboard.
Its expandable to hold anything from a 8-10 inches.
cost me just 550 bucks, and its quite well built.. Comes with a USB connector, and gets in quuite well with my Tablet S.

Nice device, but doesn't navigating the UI get a bit difficult if the tablet is placed on the holder? and I believe there isn't a mouse(or trackpad) like device.

But great for typing

Yeah, a track pad is being missed sorely.
But it's just a matter of using touch with the keypad. I'm already quite happy about how much faster the typing is.
Next peripheral, I'll make sure there's a track pad.

Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

Looking for a tablet for my kid.
Key requirements:
1. Good display and viewing angles
2. Should be able to play games like angry birds, temple run lag free. So good GPU needed.
3. G-sensor (for gaming)
4. Decent battery life at least 3 hours of gaming
5. Size: 7 inches (max 8 inches). 10 inches are too heavy and big for game playing for kids.
6. WiFi

So, far I have shortlisted Karbonn ST8.

Budget 10K

One tablet bought, now for the next one so quick?

ST8 is a good option. It is one of the few options
to use a Dual Core A9 + 1 GB of RAM.
Just try the tablet before buying, especially with the games you mentioned.
Since the Tablet has an unsual Resolution(for an Android Tab), some games may fail to play optimally.
On the other hand if you buy a smaller 7 inch one most of these would have WVGA resolution that is just too less for a 7 inch.

Another one you can look at is the WickedLeak Wammy Desire.
It also comes with option of 1024x600 resolution for the 7 inch screen and other internals are similar to ST8 specs

What about service centers for this brand?

Jkdas, have you tried streaming flash videos on either? Especially the mm infinity? How is the experience? Like couchtuner.com or putlocker videos?

Has anyone looked at Salora Pro Tab HD. At less that 5.5K, it seems decent.

Ainol, ya! But read some bad review. Do check.

Infinity is ok for kids. Screen with respect to CoreX4 is :(. Sound is pretty loud ( as in pretty loud!) . Works fine with kids games. I installed games etc using CoreX4 on 3G as hot spot. Worked great. Download speeds were very nice. I got it for 4.5k with 2 year warranty from Mobilestore.

And those asked for Skype/gchat, that too I would check in few days.
