New Jazz? New Swift? What premium petrol hatchback?

Was waiting for the launch of New Jazz for an upgrade for wify from Zen.

With the launch of Swift and Jazz, a petrolhead's choice was never so good.

We have Beat, Jazz, Fabia, Figo, i20, Micra, Polo, Punto, Swift, Vista Saffire in competition.

I can compare numbers. Beyond that, I look for team bhp for decision!! So help needed to compare these!!

Note : Am not looking for diesel. Wify rejected all diesel due to her impression about diesel figo clutch during a test drive. For diesel comparision, am following Tanveer's thread http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-d...h-hopping.html like most of you.

Re: Premium Petrol Hatches : which one to choose

If you are looking at premium petrol hatches then you should limit yourselves to I20, Jazz, Fabia (1.6), Polo (1.6).

I think the i20 should suit your needs (which is unclear though).

The needs /usage pattern is

It would be primarily driven by wify.
Around 7500Kms per year.
Should be trouble free maintainance.
Need not be best in class FE.
Will be city driven 95%. But I dont want to take chances in Safety. So need safety components as defacto. (Airbags/ABS)

Have you though about the AT then? If so i10 or an i20 would be a good choice.

Re: Premium Petrol Hatches : which one to choose

Looking at the requirements

I would recommend the Honda (Jazz), Suzuki (New Swift), or a Hyundai (i20) as all of them would be trouble free, have good petrol engines, and have good safety features.

I would rule out Polo (As the Diesel mill is much better and i did not like the petrol one), Punto (Not sure if it will be trouble free, knowing FIAT),

You could also try the Fabia, i have read good stories about Fabia, and the usual horror stories of Skoda haven't been seen on Fabia.

Figo again is better known for its Diesel mill, and i am not so sure about Tata (You can take a look if you wish).

Re: Premium Petrol Hatches : which one to choose

After the price release today, I would not even think twice! Its Jazz all the way! The swift will now be dethroned and will face severe competition. Welcome Jazz, the new king of the segment!

Errr, Polo diesel is better than the Polo 1.6? AFAIK, the 1.6 is a hot premium hatch.
But I agree with your suggestions: new Swift, i20 or the new Jazz makes a good choice for the above requirements.

Re: Premium Petrol Hatches : which one to choose

I would vote for Jazz because of Honda's reliability, quality, durability and safety. Please be away from Fabia, heard lot of horrible stories about their a$$. Similar reason incase of Polo.

Re: Premium Petrol Hatches : which one to choose

As suggested by many, honda jazz is the best premium hatchback. And now its more VFM with the price cuts, after jazz I would say polo, fabia, i20, swift, punto, micra in the descending order. I would suggest you to have a test drive of all these cars with your wife so that you can keep her feedback with you while making a decision.

PREMIUM hatchback? Hyundai i20 or Honda Jazz. Now Jazz price came down drastically, so go and get one :-) why so serious?

Jazz - more premium car per car!

IMO, you should seriously consider an AT. i10 or i20 auto should fit the bill.
Else Jazz S at 5.5 ex is an excellent option.

Re: Premium Petrol Hatches : which one to choose

First of all ask what your wifey likes by looks and the way they drive.

I would opine on

1. Micra diesel if you can or even petrol for its frugality and easy to drive nature. Also the design I feel is pretty feminine.

2. Honda Jazz. I own one and the practicality is amazing in this car. Also I consistently get 17-19 in the city. Wifey will love the space for when she goes shopping.

3. You can look at Figo and Beat diesel as worthy contenders. You can get a CNG kit for both installed from the dealer.

I would stay away from Polo diesel and Fabia.
