Car for my Mother- Please help

Hi Folks,

My mother, who is in Delhi, wants to change her car. She is currently driving a 2001 model Zen VX.

She drove the swift ZXi and though she liked the features in the car, she was a bit put off by the rear window size and overall tinny feel of the car (her perception!)

Then she tested the Getz GLX and really loved the car and does not mind paying the extra 40 K over the swift.

Howver, I have told her to wait for some time before she buys.

My question to you guys is- would you recommend anyone to buy a Hyundai product, given the scandal of bribery in Korea and the arrest of the Hyundai chairman?
Keeping rhetoric aside, is there any real danger of Hyundai goingthe Daewoo way in India.

Cheers

Himanshu

Dont worry about hyundai going the daewoo way. They are here to stay.

Getz is a fabulous car, i have always rated it above the swift.

Exactly, IMHO Getz is a better car than the Swift. Have always felt Swift is highly over-rated, part of the reason maybe its contemporary looks. Go for the Getz! coz it gets you everywhere!

Getz is a great car for ladies. Easy to drive, good visibility.

However, do look at Santro and WagonR. Excellent for older people. Easy ingress and egress. Good seating position. Breeze to drive in city.

Who said the getz has any egronomic issues, it is just as easy to get in and get out as other cars.

Besides, the santro, wagon r are smaller cars. Why to go for a smaller/older car design when you can afford a bigger/better/newer design.

Hi Dceite,

Santro and W-R are out since my mum does not like the tall boy designs. She may be pushing sixty, but is passionate about driving, and likes a car with good zip. In fact, she can put a few of our member to shame when it comes to spirited driving

I always tell her that whenever I am in the car with her, i age about 2 years cause i get grey hair out of sheer fright. Case in point- to all those who are familiar with Delhi, she uses the DPS flyover on her way to work, and invariably, her speed on coming down the flyover is between 90-100, traffic permitting!

Go for Getz . I feel Getz is much better than Swift and I have taken test drives of both. Getz is more spacious than Swift.

The palio has visibility problems. The a/b pillars, the rear view, the high dash..

Thanks F 50. Nice Review- I am pretty convinced on the merits of the car. My personal choice would have been the swift for its looks and handling, but she is pretty much sold out on the getz- Passion red GLX.

My only worry is/was the future of teh company.

finney- she has not had a very good experience with fiat cars since before the zen, se had an Uno and the ar and the dealer sucked big time. I suggested he Palio 1.6 to her but she said no to Fiat.

Does she, by choice, want a hatch ? Some sedans would also be an option at that price.
The Aveo U-VA should be out soon ... I personally think it looks the worse of the trio (Getz, Swift and U-VA).
If it has to be a hatch, the Getz fits the bill perfectly.

Absolutely Right!

My mom drives a Getz too, and she has nothing but praise for it.
It is definitely not a problem in the city, and has fantastic visibility too :-)
