Should I go for this Palio?

After driving Maruti 800 for last 3 years I have decided to switch over to a bigger hatchback and have come across a Palio 1.2 ELX December,01 model. It has run 46k km till date and the owner(he is the first owner)claims F.E. of 12 kmpl within city with AC. The car has AC,PS,PW, Stereo/FM, rear wiper, defrogger etc.Servicing was done from Anuroop Motors, Goregaon.Aparently, no major work required, but I am yet to get the engine and underbody examined. Two of the tyres were replaced recently. The owner and I stay in the same locality. He is asking Rs 125,000.00. Friends, should I go for it?

purnendubagchi, I hope you've driven a Palio before.... I owned a Palio GTX for a few months when it was launched and the brakes had a not so confidence inspiring feel to them and the turning radius was like very very bad... You live in a city like Mumbai and this will play an important role when you take U turns. I mean my Palio GTX couldn't take the U Turns the Scorpio, Corolla, Octavia etc. could/ can with ease. If you're okay with these two points, then, the Palio is a cool car... The GTX at least.

Palio

My uncle has a palio which has done about 56000 km's , he has always claimed an average of 12 in city and i dont recollet him ever using the ac on a day to day basis . By the way he lives in aurangabad so you have to factor atleast a difference of 3-3.5 km/lit downward trend in mumbai.

if you are used to a 800 then you will find the car very difficult to live with , it simply heavy and not at all trouble free . something or the else keeps on cropping up

the brakes are highly over servoed and the just lock up at the hint of your foot coming any closer. i have had a couple of close calls on that account and have never been to modulate the brakes effectively enough.

Hi,

I own a palio Dec 01 Model with 37900 on Odo. As far as the Car is concerened it still looks like new(recently bught) car and it gives a mileage of 10 in city. No problems so far, the major expense spend on it was 27,000/- that too due to the 26/7 deluge. So far I found the car is less problamatic if you go according to the service schedule.

Hi purnendubagchi,
i have a 01 dec model palio. its done 65k still going strong. No major expenses. its giving me 11 kmpl without AC in delhi traffic..

as far as maintainance is concerned yesterday went for a service estimate (that is to be done at 65000) at atil auto, the guy gave an estimate of Rs 5000 for bearings and all belts changed with complete service.gonna get the car serviced tommorrow..

Another Offer

Thank you friends for your kind reply. In the mean time I have got another offer-Palio 1.6 GTX, second owner, Jan,2003 model, run 25k km.The present Owner bought it 1 year back and driven only 1500 km. But during the period he did not give it for servicing apart from damage control after 26/07. He gets mileage of 7-8 kmpl in city. Accessories include leather seat cover, alloy, mag wheel, 12 cd changer etc.Yet to have a look at the car. Seller asking 135,000.00. Friends, would anybody tell me whether the mileage fig is ok and does it make any damage to the engine if the car is not serviced for a long time(i.e. more than 1 year)?

Why dont you take the car to a authorised showroom and get it checked??

Seen this Palio he is proud to be at the speed run it seems.

Purnendubagchi,

Check up with Anuroop for the service details. Get the car checked from another dealer / mechanic / garage you trust - just to double check.

Take a test drive and keep your eyes and ears open for any unwanted noises / rattles.

Negotiate on the rate - no harm in doing that...u might get a better price...

I personally feel if the car is clean - go for it. Negotiate on the rate though..

About the 1.6 GTX - FORGET IT

OT - Pioneer have seen your car roaming the streets of Vashi almost every evening .

Yes, Because it's a nice car at nice price!

NO, Because it'll eat most of your salary for maintenance!
