Considering the Fit and Finish, handling, the magical gearbox, the explosive motor, and those in-gear acceleration times which demolishes the traffic, the dual character, the comfort, I will choose the all rounder here, the GT TSI.
Falling in love with this little German pocket rocket more and more everyday.

Looks like the car has been launched again. Priced at 9.9L ex showroom in Bangalore.

The price looks much more palatable now considering the 8.53L sticker price for the 1 litre, 3 cylinder Baleno RS.

GT TSI sport comes in at 9.81L ex-showroom Bangalore.

I paid 9.14 ex showroom last year around the same time. Close to 70k increase just for larger rims, a towel rack and a few go faster stickers?

Narain Karthikeyan timed the Baleno RS on Sriperumbudur track. Here's how it compares with other hot hatches:

Suzuki Baleno RS : 2 mins 14.7 secs
VW Polo GT TSi : 2 mins 16.5 secs
Fiat Abarth Punto : 2 mins 16.9 secs
Honda Brio : 2 mins 18.5 secs
Suzuki Swift : 2 mins 19.3 secs
Ford Figo 1.5D : 2 mins 19.8 secs
Suzuki Baleno 1.2 : 2 mins 20.1 secs

Source: Sept 2017 Autocar India

And oh, VW Polo GTi clocked 2 mins 5.6 secs

Did he drive each of the vehicles or did he drive just the Baleno RS? I hope he drove every one of them.

If a fair comparison is to be made, the same driver would need to drive every one of the vehicles under similar conditions.

Voted for the RS. A fast hatchback should also be a complete hatchback. Much honoured Polo is neither spacious enough for 4 people nor has "decent" ASS.
Figo 1.5L P just doesn't have enough firepower. Figo 1.5 D sports is definitely a serious contender and beats the RS!

What are these timings for? How much distance did he cover in these timings?

The full track length at Chennai is 3.717 KMS. These times are in line with that distance on that track for these cars.

Thanks, helps puts things in perspective to know the distance covered, otherwise the timings are meaningless.

So, basically the difference between the fastest car and the slowest car is approx 15 secs for a distance of 3.717 kms. Not too much of a difference then, for us daily drivers. Of course I realise it is very crucial for a racer or a racerboy.

Now that the Figo S is here, wonder what times it would do on this track. Just curious how much improvement the new suspension setup has made to the time on track.

Superb video. These guys have the most talented video editors in business. The way they introduced the Abarth. Phew! Watched it twice.

Re: Fast Hatches: Baleno RS vs Polo GT TSI vs Figo 1.5 vs Abarth Punto

Hello fellow enthusiasts, i need a little help.

So I am now in the market to for a life long itch that i have had - to own a hot hatch. Obviously, the options are limited to:
  1. Polo GT
  2. S-Cross 1.6 (i know its discontinued)
  3. Baleno RS
  4. Swift RS (would have to wait for it)

From this list, i have already struck off Baleno, because of its 1.0 l engine. That would not give me much ground to tune it further. The Swift is also out for the same reason.

S-Cross, i would love to have. Now considering the limited units this one sold, to get a used one is even more difficult and i am still struggling to get a decent car.

Polo GT, the most probable option out of the list. In this two options again - used or new.

I just discovered from my visit to a VW dealership today that they have added to vital new features to the GT - 16" alloy wheels and a new entertainment system that includes Apple Car play and Android Auto. Now this car would cost approx 10.1 Lakh on road (w/o any discounts).
Now a decent used GT would be for about 6.5 to 7.5 lakh. And point to remember,, is that it will miss out on the above mentioned features.

Now where is require advice is, if I should go for a used one or a new one.

Few points to consider:
  • I will be taking a small loan, so the interest on new car loan is lower by about 3-4%. That will impact the final payout.
  • My estimate as per current trends is that i would lose about 40% on the new car in 3 years. That would make it go at about 6-7 lakh if i plan to sell it in 3 years.
  • Whereas the 2nd owner tag on the used car would make it lose more.
  • The 2 new features and the smell of a new car

What do you guys suggest? Or am i making my choice too obvious here

Please feel free to throw in other car options too. I might be a little short sighted in my excitement currently.

Bumping up this question, a colleague is in similar quandary. 2018 MY used TSI at 9.75 vs new one at 11.3 on road.
