Re: 1 Safe Car, 1 Convenient Car

Keeping in mind that they might head back to Europe/USA in a year or so, plus a hassle-free ownership during the period.

I would recommend a used Toyota Corolla for the first car & a used Honda Brio automatic as a Second Car. On another note, how about a new VW Ameo & a Renault Kwid. Both should fit the considered price criteria & being new cars, should not have any niggles or maintenance upkeep.

Happy hunting!

One of my colleagues who returned from US after living there many years, bought a Jazz and a City, both automatic. Pretty convenient and reliable to use. And can be sold without much hassle.

Re: 1 Safe Car, 1 Convenient Car

Get a used Corolla Altis petrol manual and i10 Asta AT. Overall buying both used should be under 10L overall. They might not lose much even if they resell them in a year or so.

The Altis petrol used price isn't high. When exploring one about 4 months back, I saw a 2009 Altis G manual 60K done for 3.5L from a private owner in Madras. i10 AT should around 3-4L too.

Re: 1 Safe Car, 1 Convenient Car

Hello BHPians, I have a similar dilemma.

My cousin, a 21 year old college graduate is looking for his first (pre owned) car. He's currently based in Bombay and will stay there for about two years, before he heads to the USA for higher studies. The car will most probably be sold at that time.

1. Inexpensive to maintain, reliable.
2. A/T would be a bonus.
3. ABS + Airbags are a must.
4. Budget: 2 - 2.5 lakhs

What are the possible options?

If size is not a constraint, then I'll suggest an A-Star AT. But it doesnt have air-bags.

You can get i10 Automatic at around this price range. Mileage wont be fantastic, but the car is quite reliable. For example this 2011 i10 is asking for 2.8 and you can definitely negotiate a bit to get the price down.

You can also check out Celerio which came with AMT.

Convenient Car - Ford Figo
Ford Figo DCT is a good option for those city runs. It’s safe, has a powerful 1.5 litre engine, it’s even got the stability for highway runs. If automatic is not a necessity, you can go for the more torquey Figo Diesel. You will also be able to sell it for good value after a year.

Safe Car - Ford Ecosport Titanium+
It won’t be easy to find the titanium+ variant in the used car market. The other options would be VW Jetta / Skoda Octavia or Toyota Corolla.
