Re: Ford Freestyle vs the others

Voted for Freestyle; not considering it as a cross-hatch or CUV or whatever but as a "better" hatchback. It has almost all the bells and whistles (except the auto-dimming IRVM and adjustable rear headrests), offers the best diesel engine around in hatchbacks, has good ground clearance, is comfortable and has good driving dynamics. It is, overall, a good daily driver. Only if I need more space, shall I look at other cars.

Re: Ford Freestyle vs the others

My choice is the Freestyle.

There is no other hatchback that offers 6 airbags, ESP, TC & Hill Start Assist. From safety perspective this is the best option.

Needless to say, cracker of a diesel engine.

Voted for Freestyle for its VFM prospective, although I miss the adjustable rear headrests and split folding rear seats. I don't understand why Ford calls it CUV, when such basic utilities are not offered.

Re: Ford Freestyle vs the others

Voted for the urban cross.

Had a thorough test drive of the freestyle diesel yesterday. Looks like Ford is going to replace Figo with freestyle.

Pros:
- Diesel engine is near perfect for a 1.5ltr.
- Short throw and precise gearbox.
- Hill hold assist.
- Looks bigger than Figo in person.
- Excellent head-unit in Titanium spec.
- Good brakes.
- Option to switch off TC.
- Powerful air con .

Cons:
- Flimsy build quality. Exterior built quality is same as Maruti and interior plastics are worse than Maruti.
- Brown color dashboard on Titanium model is hideous. That brown dash itself would make a major chunk of buyers run away from the car, or at least the Titanium variant.
- Steering has a dead spot at the center and feels inconsistent.
- Door pads feel below par quality.
- Boot space is minimal.
- Seats are good but the slider mechanism is of cheap quality. Will not age gracefully.

Re: Ford Freestyle vs the others

Voted for Freestyle. That sweet diesel engine is all that's needed in a hatch. Only wish they provide touch screen HU, rear camera, and adjustable rear headrests.

Isn't Touch screen HU already available? Ford also recently updated Freestlye and now gets adjustable rear headrests. Rear camera even if it doesnot come, should not cost you more than 3-5K.

Re: Ford Freestyle vs the others

oh okay.. Perhaps the touch screen HU and adjustable rear headrests were added after the update. Thanks, was not aware of it. Yes camera can be retrofitted but a car considered to be a CUV should have it as a feature, in my opinion.

Check the official review, reverse camera is also available in top spec variant. Touch screen HU was available since day 1. Only adjustable headrests were made available with the update.

Re: Ford Freestyle vs the others

Oops.. yes, my bad. Got confused with Figo S which misses out on the touchscreen HU, rear adjustable headrests and of course rear camera.

Freestyle Diesel vs Altroz Diesel

Hi All,

I think Freestyle and Altroz Diesels are in a loggerhead now. Both have 1.5L NA Diesel Engines with 4 Cylinders. Thought to run a diff between these which might help people to see the contrasts at a glance and make a good choice based on their requirement and budget:

Power:
Freestyle : 100PS @ 3500 RPM
Altroz : 90 PS @ 4000 RPM

Torque:
Freestyle : 215 NM @1750-2500 RPM
Altroz : 200 NA @1250-3000 RPM

Kerb Weight:
Freestyle : 1062-1080 Kg
Altroz : 1036 Kg

LWH :
Freestyle : 3954x1737x1570
Altroz : 3990x1755x1523

Boot Space:
Freestyle : 257L
Altroz : 345L

Fuel Tank Capacity:
Freestyle : 40L
Altroz : 37L

Wheelbase :
Freestyle : 2490
Altroz : 2501

GC:
Freestyle : 190
Altroz : 165

Tyre dimensions:
Freestyle : 185/60 R15 across all variants
Altroz : 195/55 R16 for XT, XZ, XO models.
165/80/R14 for XE, XM models.

Suspension and Brake sets for both cars are same.

While power numbers for Freestyle looks good to me, Altroz is ahead of dimensions. Though GC of Altroz is a bit letdown, but it adds to its sporty looks. A higher GC of Freestyle should help to glide through rough patches which its awesome suspension is meant for.

A quick glance to safety specs caught my attention that Freestyle has side and curtain airbags in Titanium Plus which is missing in Altroz. On the other hand collapsible steering and impact sensing auto door unlock are some features enjoyed by Altroz.

Not comparing exteriors, infotainment and comfort since it will be a long list and bit puzzling.

Based on the above specs what will be your choice ?

Re: Freestyle Diesel vs Altroz Diesel

Freestyle is a brilliant car and fun to drive without doubt.
But I will pick Altroz over Freestyle for following reasons :
1. Altroz is a brand new product and will remain market relevant for a better period of time (freshness/resale value etc)
2. Altroz's build quality inside out is a cut above. Just close the doors of both cars and you will notice the difference.
3. Altroz's seat comfort is better. Can accommodate people better in rear seat.
4. Suspension is more silent and stable with Altroz (tata bettering ford here !)
5. Interiors look much richer and better in the Tata.

Re: Freestyle Diesel vs Altroz Diesel

Though Freestyle is a very capable car but I will go ahead with Altroz for it's stunning looks & nice interiors. It's a very feature rich car with tried & tested 1.5 L diesel motor.

Re: Freestyle Diesel vs Altroz Diesel

If you need the extra Ground Clearance, get the Freestyle.
If you don't, save your money and get the Figo.

Altroz diesel is grossly overpriced. Base 5.29 for Petrol, 6.99 for base diesel. A premium of 1.70 lakh is huge.

Re: Freestyle Diesel vs Altroz Diesel

Definitely Altroz. A brand new car with superior build, cabin quality and ride and handling. Seat size is bigger and comfort is better. Certified 5 star safety rating is bonus.

Re: Freestyle Diesel vs Altroz Diesel

I would suggest the Freestyle just for that brilliant 1.5 diesel. And the top-end variant gets full-board safety with airbags all around, ESP etc.
