1.6 is capable of giving FE of 15 on long drives. When I did Mumbai - Pune - Mumbai the combined FE was 15. VDi should be more capable in that case.

Some VDIs have given more than 22 KMPL in long highway drives. I have got 20+ on full highway driving on all stocks.

Hey guys I read about the Pete's tuning box for the swift in various Team-Bhp forums. too good to be true. imagine 90bhp and 21nm of torque on a swift. thats putting an octi ingine under the hood of a swift. must be insane? anybody heard of any long term problems caused by these things.

For long drives, you can not compare a peppy Petrol engine with a much developed diesel engine.. FE is always going to be par with diesels.

Swift VDI has got everything: Great great service of Maruti and equally great engine from FIAT.. I would anytime prefer 1.6 for its pure power and rev tempting engine but practically Swift will always win....

Cheers

you have a 1.9 D?? unless the car is giving you trouble dont bother with changing it, or if you want one more then go for the swift d.

fe for swift d will be 14-16 with ac in city and 19 to 22 kmpl, on highways with ac again.

down side is the plastics that tend to rattle but fixed during service, apart from that nothing wrong with the build. i have abused alot and she is still fresh as new. (suspension, gearbox, engine etc).

Handling is rock solid once i moved to 195 14 inchers, i have experiences with palio also and wouldnt complain much on ride at high speeds, though below 60 its choppy.

if you are not in a hurry wait out for linea and all, since you are used to fiats

par with diesel? i dont think so, light footed palio 1.6 will give you 16 (ok really good at it stretch to 18) kmpl to 50 Rs, where as light footed Swift D will give above 22 kmpl to 35 Rs.

It aint par, trust me been ive been down that road.

A 1.6L engine giving a FE of 16 KMPL is a talk order. It would be more closer to 12 or 13. While Swift D will get you an average of 18. On Mileage Swift D is way ahead of palio.

Thats interesting!! did upgrading to such wide tires have an effect on the FE? I know that my dads palio gave about 0.5-1 km less after upgrading to 185/70.

I think that in order to get 16kmpl on the Palio it has to be driven very gently and that defeats the very purpose of ownng it.

Yup, Thats right on the dot. If you are easy with the throttle, the 1.6 engine will deliver really good results on the highway, sometimes even better than the 1.2. I have repeatedly managed to extract close to 17-18 kmpl on the highways, while my 1.2 never returned more than 15-16 kmpl under similar conditions.

BTW, drove a friend's brand new Ldi today, great car.Loved it once again. But.... realised.... its no Palio 1.6. Still, the more practical choice though.

Don't understand these guys (Overdrive and Autocar) at all . I am consistently getting a mileage of 11 + (last one was 11.7 )kmpl here in Bangalore for my Petra; that too with 50% AC and I am rarely light on pedal. Again I was getting 13-14 Kmpl driving in and around my home town in kerala. I could not manage any 100% Highway trip so far.
