Used Honda City or New Swift LXI ?

Dear Team,

My Cousin is planning to buy a car and he is confused whether he shd go for an used Honda City Exi (Sept 2004) or a brand new swift lxi. Both cars are costing him same, he is worried abt honda city's maintenance cost. His question is can honda city's maintenance cost afford by average middle class person.

pls comment.

His usages will be 50km day

Regards,
Jitendra

What is the budget? If 50km/day, you can very well go for diesel vehicle as the FE and cost of fuel filling would be less than petrol. What is his average spend on fuel/month?

But if you choose between Honda n swift LXi, then both are in different class. Both vehicles are reliable. If you ask me a new vehicle would always be preferrable compared to old vehicle. But again it depends on your friend. Whether he will be using it alone or with family...If with family how many members and what % with family he will be using and about the backseat/boot space. Pls specify correctly the above points. It will be easier for people here to suggest on the models and otehr things...

Approximately 1200 kms/month.. 15000 kms/year... Definitely you can go for a Diesel one. New Swift VDI will be the most economical solution for you.
If you are sticking to petrol and your concern is only maintenance cost then new Swift vxi is always better than the old Honda City.

Thx for your replies guys.

Petrol expense will be given by company, He has to only buy the car ( as car will be owned by him he has to bear servicing cost and parts replacement ), car will be Marjory used in mumbai city for office commute, 95% he will be using it alone. once or twice out station trip with family, family is of 4 including him

Budget is 4.5 lakhs, which can be stretched bit, i guess swift & City gives avg of 13km/liter in city with AC.

Regards,
Jitendra

Forget about the maintenance issues that you are thinking about the City. If there is one thing that City does not give a person it is trouble

I would say go for the City especially if you can get a well maintained one. More spacious, more comfortable, more everything really

I dont think he will be concerned with the mileage then. If your friend has identified a good used Honda city, its a good option. Else Ford Ikon is also a good, Not because Swift is bad, but because its a bigger car.

Go for the City.
Honda's are easy and cheap to maintain and are very reliable.
The city is bigger, more comfortable, much better built and even more reliable than the Swift.
Get the city checked before buying it though.

Hondas last much longer & are much more affordable to maintain. Better VFM.

How much can the budget be stretched?

Between the two mentioned by you, I would suggest the City, as you would get a bigger car, and also spacious interiors. I dont like the NHC as such, but i do agree it has some good attributes.
