Need to buy a Second hand car - Please advice

Hi,

I need to buy a second hand car for my wife. She is not very comfortable with bigger car and wants a Maruti 800. I was planning to buy a second hand car till she is comfortable driving.
Now I am looking for nice car that will not have to go to the garage often. Which year's model do you suggest.
The car will not run more than 10-15 km a day.
I was also thinking about the Matiz. Any suggestions.

Please let me know what to look in a second hand car & suggest price if possible.

Thanks in advance.

Manoj

All depends on budget. Do stick to cars where good a.s.s is avalaible. Since you are considering M800 look at alto and the zen as well. Service avalaible at every nook and cranny.

The alto will be excellent VFM, you could get a neat 2003/4 alto for around 1.5L.

A Maruti Zen in good condition should be available for 100-115k for a 2000-2001 model, I would consider this a good buy.

Its better to go for ALto LXI or ZEN LXI. The reason i am mentioning LXI is cos they come with power steering.
You very well know (ladies dont feel offended) while taking turns females take pretty long cut n hard to turn so its better to go for a power steering car.
ALTO is value for money good average cheapest and comfortable.

WagonR LXi...I would suggest this car as it has good height and ladies can easily see the front portion of vehicle. Or you can go fo Alto (people's car). The A** of Maruti is uncomparable with others.

Well I am sorry I did not mention few things. I already have a 2004 WagonR which she isn't comfortable with.

BTW my budget is 1 to 1.3 lac.

Which model of Zen or Alto can I target at that price?

Go for a preowned Alto ( 2004 ) - Available at about 1.2 - 1.4 Lacs I would say.

Nothing better than an Alto in that segment.

In Bangalore, prices of Alto are very costly. I guess 2003-04 Alto will definitely cost more than 2 lacs. If you budget is between 1-1.3 lacs, you can go in for a 2002-03 Maruti 800.
I had a Maruti 800 2002 model, mint condition, non AC, which I sold for 1.2lacs around 6 months back

I just love this place, the moment i think of starting a thread what i see is that a similar one is already in process. "Thumbs up".

That means under 1.5 one can easily find a car which is hardly 2/2.5 years old. And TBH i haven't seen any alto's broken down on the roads. The quality seems to be good.

Alto's are reliable car's. When people pay 3 lacs for a car - they expect basic transportation from Point A to B. Throw in a AC & Power steering - what more can you want ?

Look at Santro's / Wagon - R's - same thing again - you cannot find flaws with these cars. These are not performance vehicles. They are good economical vehicles meant for India.

Logic would say so but out here zen is having the best resale for the moment second only to the alto.
