what car? budget 5-7 lakhs.

My Brother in law is looking for a new car around March 2005. His heart is set on the NHC (New Honda City) but he finds is a triffle large. Here is a list of contenders. Budget 5-7 lakhs.

1. Hyundai Getz
2. Maruti Swift
3. Ford Fusion
4. NHC
5. any other options (must be new).

He is single and uses his car to drive to the city (from Versova) about twice a month and to ferry his parents about twice a week.

He wants a car that has best cororrion resistance (since he lives on the beach), looks good (his present car is a Matiz), and is easy to drive in traffic.

My hearts says "NHC" but that would be streching his budget a bit. Also if he gets it scratched or dented he would be very disappointed. My head says Swift but he is not inclined to have a Maruti in his garage.

Should he wait for the new Matiz from Chevy? Will it be a worthy contender?

Here's how i look at it.

1. NHC - first choice, as it's got good amounts of space but at the same time, it's easy to drive. Enuf for the kinda driving your friend is looking at.

2. Swift - not the most generous in terms of space, but it's powerful, refined and easier to drive than the Fusion.

3. Fusion - now that is a broad car and Ford isn't know to make cars with a small turning radius, but it's got the most space. He won't feel the need for a bigger car even when he gets married and has 2 kids.

4. Getz - easier to drive than the Fusion, but face it, it's probably slightly bigger than the Zen, which means very little space. But if this car can be bought in the CRDi trim, that would be worth it. But check for space first.

That's coz there are people who are getting 16 within city limits. I know a person right here who's getting that much.

I myself get between 10 and 13kmpl (city) from my 106bhp car. The NHC is just 77bhp.

I guess driving style makes a lot of difference.

Maybe he has a good style, but each car needs to be drivin in it's own way. I remember someone mentioning that he knows this guy in Pune with the ability to extract the best FE figures from any car given to him.

If people are getting 16, it means that the car is capable of it.

LOL don't worry. I don't really care about it's FE. I'm not a FE guy.

If it gives 16 be happy, if it gives 11, then ooops, wrong choice.

LOL! No one having a good style of driving (which is inclined to good Fuel Efficiency figures) is going to drive like crazy. Its not that only the people who floor the car at 140 kmph at every curve on the road are good drivers. There are much better drivers out there.
And ofcourse, even a dumb nut will know how his own car needs to be driven!

U know what, forget it. I don't own a NHC nor do you, so why bother.
