Palio 1.2 Sport ?

Hi All,
I am in a process of buying a car and being the FIAT fan that I am, I thought the best bet would be either a Palio 1.2 or a 1.6

Couldn't find a 1.6, but managed to find one decent 1.2 sport

Specs of the car:-
Palio 1.2 Sport, Red, November-2003 model, alloys, music system, Around 35k kms run, 2nd owner.

Condition:-
Decent tyres, fabric seat covers,

I coudnt drive it because it was already late and I had to get back home. Am planning to take it for a TD tomorrow and also take it to a decent mechanic tomorrow.

Observation:-
- One thing that I did observe is, when he took a full right turn, there was some kind of odd sound coming from the front wheels; is this a problem with the drive shaft or something?
- Owner says he gets about 8kmpl, is that not very low for a Palio, I think it is supposed to give atleast 12-13 in city.
- No major dents, just minor scratches here and there.

Price :-
The seller is asking about 2.35 lakhs for it.

I feel its a little too much on the upper side?

Please advise.

Price is too high ,it shouldnt be more than 1.8l max.
And yes 8kmpl is low for palio 1.2.

Buddy!! I sold my 1.2 and bought a 1.6 , I am in love with its torque !!

I would suggest you to look out for a good 1.6 .. but , which i think may be tough to find .

Thanks
Abhishek

The older Palio's had a marginal odo error (think displays ~10% less) and also the worn out tyre would make it look worse. But 8KMPL is too low (i bet a 1.6 would give more than this...), check ownership/maintenance history, really ask how long the 2nd owner had retained the car... check the front suspension throughly, its not suppose to go kaput @ 35k - check carefully if it has taken an impact or the car has been abused. I suspect a lot of abuse/poor maintenance to return such low FE figures.

Check the electricals, they are the ones that fail on a Palio.

I wouldnt pay more than 1.6L (+/- 5k) for a 2nd owner 2003 car, dont get carried away but haggle hard.

Pre "nv" models had some speedo error and thats why they reported low mileage.

35k for a 2003 model is quiet low.. but again the price is too high.

My friend bought a 1.2 nv sport about 6 months back in mint condition for 2.2 in Bangalore. So you will have to negotiate on the proce part.

My suggestion.. search for a "nv" model or a 1.6 since a non "nv" is going to be low on mileage.

Though it is a older version of Palio, 8 kpl is too low, it should ideally give 11-12 kpl.

Maybe it was not well mantained or something wrong with the Car.
Better to look out for Palio NV 2004+ models.

One of my friends was selling a 04 Palio NV Sports fully loaded and converted to LPG for a price of 2.2L in Bombay. Single owner and parsi car. Not sure if its sold already, but makes me think that you could get the 03 model for a lot cheaper.

i dont know why my posts are not coming up soon.
I think it needs to go through the Admin approval.

Well, if u listen to what I say now, I am sure almost everyone in T-BHP will kick me...

I sold my Palio 1.6 GTX-SP (the one with ABS and Airbags) model and am now looking for another 1.6, but since I am not able to find any, am trying to settle for a 1.2 :(

I was under a lot of pressure from my family to sell it.

If finances is not a concern, I would suggest you to go for a brand new Palio 1.6 Stile.

I was quoted 4.77 lacs OTR (3yr warranty+sunfilm+mud flaps+speakers)

I think it is real VFM considering you have complete peace of mind for 3 years, since FIAT cars are not exactly known to be cheaper to maintain.

With a used Palio (2004 or 2003 model) you would have to put in money at regular intervals. (eg: tyres, battery and all).

All the best in your search.

Yes, the rear of Palio Stile is not inspiring but 1.6 is still bang for the bucks!
