Santro vs. WagonR - only on comfort/space

I have been deliberating a car purchase over the past few weeks - and have finally got it down to santro vs wagonR. I had thought of considering the i10, but it probabaly is a bit too pricy (at least 50K+?) i think.

My primary considerations are
1)seating comfort and fun- both front and rear
2)driving comfort and fun
3)legspace and bootspace
4)Ride quality - have read about the poor rear ride quality of the santro - dont know how big a factor that is

I am not bothered about price, power, mileage, ***, spare parts, resale as i think there is little to choose between the two.

Any help
-Neeraj

Neeraj, Now that you have narrowed down to 2 similar cars, I would suggest to take test drive of both and see...Pick the one you like...
WagonR-Santro debate is very subjective and vary from person to person...

Santro vs WagonR - is a classic debate.

There are people who own both & suggest WagonR.
There are people who own both & suggest Santro.

Please test drive both of these extensively and let us know your findings.

Palio Stile 1.1 fits your bill perfectly!
Price wise it should be almost same as Santro/WagonR.

Fiat Service in Mumbai should be decent, Fiat owners in Mumbai can confirm?

Expect a FE of 13-15 kmpl in City.

1)seating comfort and fun- both front and rear
Front seating comfort -santro
Rear seating comfort: Santro can seat 3 people easily as compared to wagon R.
2)driving comfort and fun
Santro all the way. Excellent driving position and road view. Very good low end torque which is boon in city driving. Highway driving - santro and Wagon R score same.
3)legspace and bootspace

Rear legspace in santro is better. Bootspace in wagon R is better.
4)Ride quality - have read about the poor rear ride quality of the santro - dont know how big a factor that is
Frankly speaking I have not found any difference. Both are same. May be its because i don't seat on back seats often.

Disclaimer: I own a Santro and my brother owns a Wagon R.

I would blindly go for the Santro.
I have driven my sisters wagonR, the gear box is attrocious, i hate it.
It's a good city car though. I have lived with a WagonR, so i can say that for fun city driving, i would definitely not recommend it.
But mind you again, it's still a good city car.

I TD'ed the santro and absolutley loved the peppy nature of the santro engine and the smooth gear shift is a boon while negotiating the traffic. WagonR gear changes is another story

For your requirement Palio stile is best bet, trust me its good vehicle!

between santro/WagonR based on your need I suggest WagonR because it wins in space, comfort, ride quality, FE, resale value, A.S.S.

TD Palio/WagonR/Santro see which you like best and decide.

Regards,

Ravi.

Go for Santro if you want:-
1. Fast acceleration in lower gears, esp in city driving.
2. Driving long distances---the driver's seat offers better comfort.
3. Better visibility, as the A pillar does not hinder your view.
4. Seating 3 passengers in the rear.

Go for WagonR if you want:-
1. Better ride quality, including the rear seats. I've heard horror stories of rear suspension in the Santro.
2. More space--in the boot, and on top of your head.
3. Lighter and effortless steering for city driving.
4. Better braking.
5. Reclining rear seats (a big hit that made me go in for a WagonR, but I'm not sure if this feature still exists)

I wonder that why we are trying to confuse Neeraj. When he has already short listed Santro and WagonR, why are people suggesting Palio Stile 1.1?
Now somebody will recommend a xeta also.

This is not right and many people on this forum have this habit.

I say why not , the diesels or even the indigo CS- their insides are huge

IMHO, TD them both, and if you're the one who's gonna have the final say,I think you'll favour with the santro. Its a lot more fun to drive.

Dear Sush, I normally don't do that, but the priorties mentioned by Neeraj closely matched with Stile 1.1, hence I recommended the same.

being an owner of a santro xing i can safely say that its one of the better cars for city driving. The engine as someone has already mentioned has a good low end torque, however is not as refined or revvy as the wagon r's engine.

for your considerations:
1. seating comfort: both are same for front seats. rear seat comfort is definately better in santro
2. driving Comfort: santro has good low end torque but wagon r is more revvy. Santro has a good allround visibility but wagon r has a better steering.
3. legspace and bootspace: both are almost same in legspace however cant comment on the bootspace.
4. Ride Quality: santro feels more smooth but has a bumpy suspension. Wagon r on the other hand feels decent except the gear shifts.

Verdict: Test drive both the vehicles thoroughly and then decide.

1)seating comfort and fun- both front and rear
For driver seating comfort Santro offers a better deal. WagonR seats are rather flat, which offer little support for long drives! However, Santro pedals are not ideally placed which also causes discomfort for long drives. Both depends on your height, so its better you go for TD.
2)driving comfort and fun
Fun? Santro has a peppy feel compared to the WagonR which has better mid-range. I'd suggest Santro for driving fun!
3)legspace and bootspace
WagonR. Boot space is more compared to Santro. The rear legroom is also better, however the advantage is little. 4)Ride quality - have read about the poor rear ride quality of the santro - dont know how big a factor that is
Santro rear seat ride is bad and stiff. If you regularly have passengers at the back this could be a problem.

In my opinion, i10 is not pricey (may be pricey compared to competition, but its mostly justified by the interior quality). Eliminating i10 just based on price wont be a good idea. Between WagonR/Santro, there is little to choose. Better option for driver's car would be Santro, while WagonR would be a better family car. TD is the way to go! [/quote]
