It all depends on your budget, the petrol is better on high revvs, the diesel has more torque.

hey rana. since budget is no bar i think you shuold look for a petrol. since you are going to go all out on performance mods does it make sense to buy a new car? i think it would be fine if you bought a used petrol swift and did an engine swap. a g16b (baleno engine) would be nice in a swift.

I think Pete'd Swift will be scary !
I dont have one but the stock itself has some scary torque.
If you ask me, a Peted Swift is a much more sensible decision because, with Diesel Swift, you get performance as well as economy. I am afraid economy will go for a toss with a modded Petrol Swift.

So i would say, go for a Pete'd Swift.

This is what I have gathered from driving both the Petrol and Diesel swift, I may be wrong though

A petrol car has a more free revving engine which means the engine will go to a much higher speed and you will be able to stay in a gear for much longer.

A diesel car has more torque which gives the car a feeling that it is about to take off when you open up the throttle a bit, However the rev rrange is limited and you have to shift to a higher gear sooner than you would have to in a Petrol

Between the two I found the Diesel to be a lot more fun to drive

However Id say forget the swift and get a Getz CRDi which will be able to go to about 130bhp with a petes box installed.

also.. to what BUSA replied earlie,r although i ve been driving for a long time and i did a lot of research on the internet i still need a little help in understand....

1. how does more REVS feel..?

2. how does more torque feel..?

could somebody please try to explain in simple words....

thanks...
From what little knowledge i have this is what i feel its like.

More torque means more fast movement of your car from point A to point B. SInce the torque kicks in at very low rpms in diesel engines you would not have to revv the engine much to get the car rolling.

However if you wanna have a free flow exhaust and get noticed you might have to go for a petrol where you can really revv her so that "your point is heard by the mass!!"

Probably in the diesel by the time you revv high enough to be "Heard" you might have someone in front of you and would have to slow down!!

OT - rana_kirti, I guess dotted messages are not preferred. Not that I do not like them, but I got Infractions for one of the messages by a mod. was bit rude to get infraction instead of warning for a newbie. So want you to avoid that

See what you need the machine for.

1. Track Driving - Petrol has edge(Though even there internationally diesel is taking it by storm)
2. City Driving - Diesel has edge(Same performance and still being relatively relaxed than the petrol)
3. Highway Driving - Equally matched( Diesel will give you initial thrust, Petrol will give high RPM boost)

@ rana I guess the best way to find out the difference in driveability of the petrol vs diesel is to drive both yourself. Go for the one that YOU like. Both have their pros & cons. Do not deciede without a test drive...

Cheers

Are you open to other cars? If yes, then try for Getz CRDi. It has more space and the looks is also better compared swift. The engine is also more responsive. This is only my feeling.

I second that. I stand by a Pete'd Swift any day. Haven't driven one but the stock power combined with oodles of torque is the way to go. It'll eat up a stock Petrol Swift for breakfast lunch and dinner. Top end will be slightly low but I believe the Pete's box should do the needful.

The Petrol Swift has a GREAT potential. Comes very very lean from factory in interests of economy.
Combine that punchy engine with the good handling, and you have a winnerin your hands.

Yes diesel torque is good fun. But it is certainly not an all out responsive car.
Petrol more fun. No turbo lag and it revs nicely too......

Swift D is my bet. I have driven both before deciding on Swift D. Petrol version is no comparison for the Diesel in terms of Torque. except for some extra engine sound in Diesel I see no negatives in the Diesel car. Petrol version is too sedate or you are compelled to use lead feet and have your FE Drop to single digit.
