I am starting to feel this endless wait for a hot hatch is futile - not sure if any of the hatches in india so far can handle and perform like the fiesta 1.6s (which is a hatch i would say), although they are certainly priced equal and more ! Would the 1.6 or 1.2turbo variants (whenever they come) in punto, polo, etc make them equal to a fiesta in terms of handling?

What about i10? According to Autocar India, December issue, the New (2010) Hyundai i10 1.2 is faster in the 0-100 run than the New (2010) Skoda Fabia 1.6 and is bettered only the Palio 1.6 in the hatch segment!

an Idea that I've been bouncing around in my head. I'll be moving to chennai soon, and I'm VERY interested in hitting the track whenever i have an option. Unfortunately my indica is not exactly the best tool for the job, and its getting a bit old. Have been contemplating a switch to a zen/alto/possibly an e-zen - am looking for a cheap hatch with sufficient grunt ( for reference, the ikon 1.6 was the only petrol car in my budget - havent driven the palio 1.6- that i felt had sufficient grunt)

strictly between the ezen and the alto k10, which do you think is best for a daily driver for a bachelor ?

I can't wait to get my hands on a Brio.

Why the Brio? Well, why not?

- It is powered by a frugal, nippy and rev-happy 1.2 4-pot lump that makes (near as makes no difference) 90 horses.

- The wheels are placed at the extreme corners of the car, which means: Short overhangs and amazing chuck-ability!

- Weighs under 1000 kgs, which I believe is crucial when we talk of hot-hatches.

- Not a tall car, so isn't shy of corners!

- Import-tuner tail-lights come stock!

What would I do with it?

- 15" wheels on 195 section tyres.

- CAI + FFE

- Red Honda badges

You've got a few options. If it has to be a new car, then it has to be Alto K10. The motor might feel wheezy if you push it too hard, but it should be good within the city. If you can get your hands on a used Zen, then nothing like it! Find a G13B and shoe-horn it into the Zen's engine-bay, and you're good to go! *winks*

Lol you know what, i have been thinking the exact same thing since yesterday. The Ikon is 6.5 years old, and am toying with the idea of getting a small hatch instead (just toying ...yet ) and the only thing I can think of plonking my money on is the Brio. Need to take a TD soon and see what it is really made of. After that who knows

Pardon me for being unfamiliar with the lingo, but is the "e-zen" supposed to be read as "estilo-zen"? I do recall three generations of the Zen - Estilo, International, and the 'pre-International'. We had one of those 'pre-International' ones in the family.

The E-Zen people are talking about here are the old generation Zen with Esteem engines. So you have E-Zen (Esteem engine), B-Zen (Baleno engine) and H-Zen (Honda engine)

I have the car on 195 profile 14 inchers and it is very very stable with those wheels.

However before doing any of those mods, I'd look to get the ECU limiter removed so that it goes beyond 145-150 indicated on the speedo. It gets to those speeds very very quickly but doesn't move beyond it.

Ah, that's how they are named! I had an E-Zen (pre-International) then - both the Zen and the Esteem in the family had the same Peugeot TUD5 4-cylinder diesel engine. We got the Zen first, it ran 8 years before it was sold. Then, we got the Esteem in 2004 (we had both the Zen and the Esteem for a while) and the Esteem is probably seeing its 8 years up this year so it's time for another replacement.

Of course, I could be mistaken if the nomenclature is for the petrol Zens.
