Which hot hatch can be souped up most?

A poll for all tuners, petrolheads and dieselheads

In a few months, it will be time for me to replace my CAI + FFE santro with a true hot hatch, one which has the potential to be modded to perform like a ferrari and look like a true hottie. Something which zips past people leaving them with a flabbergasted look. Now lets not get too lost in that line but I guess what we are looking for here is a really good souped up sports hatch!!

I have seen multiple threads some saying petrols are best modded with the racedynamics chips and turbochargers and others saying take a diesel and pete it without the car ever going out of warranty. Now i understand each has its own pros and cons, risks and gains, but an opinion from the general tbhp community is warranted.

I have created a poll to understand the public ka choice when it comes to most soupable hatch. Also I am sure there will be lot of people who would say get a vtec and do it up or a lancer and plonk a mivec in. Now those are good choices, but in a place like bangy where driving and parking space is virtually extinct, a reliably modded hatch which can also be my daily driver and weekend track burner makes more sense.

Some cars I can think of and which are in the poll ---
swift chipped and tc'd - has its risk but the joy of hearing your own turbo go woosh woosh
getz crdi with a petes box and maybe handling/brake upgrades - reliable and highest bhp and torque i guess, but handles like jello
e-zen, b-zen, zondas - pure performance but handling needs to be worked on a lot, also theres a lot of time and complications in finding a reliable engine and maybe then tcing it
the others which no one talks about modding - srv (bad transmission), palio (no place under hood), fabia (too new), etc
importing a golf, megane, mini - you may not get the joy of modding them as you spent all the money importing them

Parameters which may affect your decision could be torque vs bhp, handling upgrades needed, cost and reliability.

So let the voting begin cheers:

edit - mods if you feel this poll has been done before and is as current as this one, then please move/merge as needed

Voted for Swift DDis. But you can even consider Getz CRDi.

actually Pete's Performance Products is down, else I wanted to mention the exact torque and bhp figures for getz crdi (130bhp??) and swift ddis.
the getz vgt vs swift fgt is also something to ponder about
then again we have recent examples like swift tc'd by gembella and vikram and they are awesome performing daily drivers

Voted for the old zen. A B-Zen has always been on my wishlist!
btw, what's the reva doing on a hot hatch thread?? The only way to make it a hot hatch would be to turn the heater up!!

Getz CRDi with petes 130BHP and 270 Nm torque.

Swift DDis with petes 90BHP and 215 Nm torque.

Palio 1.6 will win the poll.

Also, pls note that performance mods on a new car will mean u can kiss the warranty goodbye! Another reason for a b-zen!!

thanks for posting those figures kpzen

so are we saying the getz crdi 130bhp can beat the tc'd 110bhp swifts we are seeing on the threads. Now that would be a most reliable treat although still not as fun as the sound of your tc'd swift's bov going off

Also i understand warranty may go void - which is why a zen makes a lot of sense, but then so does a peted getz crdi
OR for that matter get a new swift vxi abs - chip it in first phase to avoid going out of warranty and do some cool visual mods over the 1-2 yr warranty period and then tc it 1 yr down the line
Besides I may go out of warranty with simple tires and alloys, which I am sure I will do, then why not go all out a year after purchase

In terms of most value for buck new car, its got to be Swift DDiS and voted for it. Palio 1.6 is my choice, though its better to keep it stock than trouble oneself by modding. In other words, its the most fun (in stock) car among hatches mentioned here.

i couldn't afford the volkswagen golf gti or r32 even in UK forget ever getting to mod them - they cost 20k and 24k pounds respectively - 100% import duty and we are getting close to insanity
