purchasing 2007 december uva

Hi friends,

When i went for testdriving UVA, the sales persone told me that they have a 2007 december vehicle (LS) with them and if i am comfirtable with it, they can give me a discount of Rs. 30,000 for it.

I said them 'No' because i dont know whether it's virgin. and i dont know whether GM has made any refinement to the new vehicles.

What you say? is it safe to go for it?

Thanks in advance

There is a good risk of it being a TD car. Why not get a qualified person to check the car?

My friend looked for Santro around February, hyundai had offered a similar deal as well. But then, there were two- three vehicles of 2007 batch to choose from.

Go over it with a fine comb to see if its a damaged vehicle. If its simply a vehicle thats never got sold, that OK to pickup- albeit at a higher discount than the mere 30K being offered. If it were a TD vehicle, you would never know for sure - in which you should be observing the tyres, wheel arch claddings and underbody of the car for signs of abuse that would give away its TD lineage.

At just a 30k discount, I would say no, even if it is not a TD car. We are 6 months into 2008!!

Discounts of that amount are given regularly, for fresh pieces also. A 6 month old piece should come at a much bigger discount.

If he is willing to stretch to 50-60k, And if it is an un-damaged piece, you can consider it. Apart from what theMAG has said, check for oil traces along the pipes. Have it hoisted up and check the under-side with a good torch. Check for other tell-tale signs like scratches on the door frame (lower part).

Also, Does the car smell like a new car ?

You are spendin around 5 lakhs for a car,buy a fresh, latest model and have peace of mind forever.30 thousand here or there is a very small price to pay for peace of mind.

I agree completely. That should be your first priority but, then just to have no regrets get the offered vehicle checked and satisfy if its just an unsold car. And, don't settle for anything below 60K if the car is fine. I don't think there is any refinement done to the vehicle in the last 3-4 months.

Btw, AFAIK, Dec 2007 models are sold until Feb of new year and the 2008 model generally come around Feb/Mar timeframe.

But a new car 2008 model instead of going in for 2007 model. The discount of 30K is way too less as we are alrady into 6th month of 2008. They discount ofered by the dealer should be between 50K~60K. If you insisit to go with this vehicle, then you ask for the above discount and whole lot of accessories with it. To know if it is a TD'd vehicle, just follow what others has said above.

Quite a risk to go for a 2007 model. My advice would be NO .
Rather stick to the 2008 model .

Please avoid the Dec 2007 car, big discounts notwithstanding. It could either be a test-drive car, or one that has been standing still for 7 months....neither situation is ideal. Instead, shop around for a good discount on the 2008 UVA and seal the deal.

Friends,

finally, it’s a 'NO' to the 2007 car
Thanks for your advises. As GTO commented, there should be some reasons for standing still.

BTW, Yesterday i took test-drive on a SWIFT - I was given a brand new car that ran just 8 KM. I asked them whether that’s a demo car and they said something like its a stand by car - I don’t believe them

I think all should refuse to take test-drive on an unregistered car...
