spark or palio for 3.3 lakhs? Edit - Finalized Spark

So much discounts, and now the 4% tax cut. The spark and palio are both costing pretty much equal

spark 1.0 ps - 3.10 lakhs
palio 1.1 sl - 3.40 lakhs

In fact, I will be buying one of these for the new year. What do you guys suggest. Please do provide your 2 cents

Spark might be the lower maintenance cost and higher mileage offering among the two. But I think that we'll get a bigger, safer, better handling and more satisfying feel in the Palio, though it may be a bit costlier to buy and to own. Anyway it's all personal taste, but if I were given the choice, I'd surely go for the Palio .

Palio. Simple reason. space. even more simple, safety. Maintenance, will even out over the long run. something off topic. The Spark/Matiz has taken it manufacturer into bankruptcy. GM will survive, but will never be its former self.

GM has dug it's own grave and no reason to blame the spark which is not a bad car own it's own right.

However, as everyone said, build wise, space and other factors tip the scales towards the palio.

As others pointed out Spark loses to Palio in its comfort and its build. My opinion is Palio 1.1 is very sturdy as compared to other 1.1's in the market.

Hi Ritz
my vote goes to PALIO hands down.
Main reason : very comfortable car to drvie & ample leg room for the rear passengers & a very strong body & could do quiet a bit of modifications in future if needed.
Just my 2 cents

a. Spark is a lovely car, and much better mileage. More easier, nicer to drive, esp for older people/women. Peppier too.
b. Palio is extremely decent for a stable low mileage long term ownership, and typically gives less mileage with the 1.1 (10xx kg vs 825 kg for spark).
c. Its best used as a low usage car
d. Else its a damn sturdy car worth every penny

Go for Spark.
1)Palio body was not designed keeping in mind the 1.1 motor. 1.1 is terribly underpowerd specially with A/C.
2)Also as A.S & S. for Fiat cars is done by TATA is not the best of experience.
3) Palio parts availability is not as easy as Spark.

Spark feels more responsive in city and on highway as compared to Palio 1.1 and will also give better FE. Factor in better A.S & S., and Spark looks like a more practical option.
If Palio was not 1.1, but a larger motor then the deal would tilt towards Palio, but the weakest link in Palio 1.1 is the motor itself.

Moreover, you will also have better FE from Spark.

PS: Please provide more data on what is the basic job the car will be fulfilling for you. It would helps all here to more specifically pin point their opinion.

I have test driven both, and spark wins hands down for Indian city commute with small roads and tight u-turns

Palio matters because I was stunned by the driver comfort it offers. The pic shows driver seating positions. Even swift or the new Vista do not provide such comfot.

Take note at the Red arrows.
1 Bent knees tucked under the dash board
2 Heel not relaxed
3 no thigh support

So I concluded, Palio is the best for those who want driver comfort and have frequent long long driving. Instead of the low powered 1.1 Palio MJD will do more justice to the brilliant designed machine

I thank fiat for designing such a car and making it affordable even for the common man. Wonder, when the most reliable, best customer satisfaction Maruti will copy paste this design.

Ritz,
If you need a better drive and comfort, go for Palio. Try to squeeze and get more freebies from the dealer.
Good luck on your new car.

Ritz, I have one more option to confuse you.

How about Santro GL? Costs 2.99L ex-showroom for a week more. Grab the offer!

Even I go with Blue star. Why not consider Santro?
Palio 1.1 is extremely underpowered. I would not recomend it.

Spark is better of the two, but lacks on space comparitively. And about GM bankrupcy, I dont think they would need to close down the business. US would not allow it, as there would be lakhs unemployed.

Santro is a little old in design, but is not bad (Palio is still old in design as far as interiors are concerned). Its peppy and good for Long drives as well since it has more space (when compared to Spark).

I wouldnt suggest any of the 2. Go for a A star instead !!!

Among the 2, if you are young and would want to take your girl freind around then go for the Palio, it looks deadly.
