Need an good upgrade to the Wagon R

My uncle is planning to replace his 2 years old Wagon R with something better. He is planning to book Fabia. How good of an choice is this ? After looking at their service nightmares i really don't want my uncle to go through it but he somehow likes the car, but am 100% sure that he'll crib after going through the hassles.

So is there any good replacement to the Fabia ? I suggested him Swift Zxi, he said he doesn't feel it as an upgrade to the Wagon R. In terms of quality both feels the same to him it seems. I told to TD it once which he is doing it on monday. But wants a car by the end of june. I guess there is a long waiting period for the swift. He doesn't want the palio either.

Is there any other car which can be checked out ?

His requirement.

1.Car should be faster compared to the wagon R.
2.Has an really good interior quality.
3.Mostly it is for city use and 1 day per week on the highway.
4.Space requirement is for 4 people.
5.Petrol version and the budget is max of 8 L.
7.Only hatch as he has issues with parking.

Thanks

@ bottle - unfortunately, the Linea is not a hatch.

@ Saiyan

Considering your uncles requirements, like you said the Swift Petrol, ZXi Variant would be the best option available. You could convince him by enlightening him about the following -

* it is faster that the Wagon R
* its interior build quality is reasonable. similarities to the Wagon R do persist but its durable and clean cut.
* it is easy to drive in the city and gives decent FE of about 9/10kms per litre. On highways the FE is pretty good(about 14-15kms per litre).
* it easily seats 4 people and ride comfort is reasonably good.
* top end model would be priced within 6 L. hence giving him about 2 L of savings

Moreover, the Swift being a Maruti ensures easily available and cost effective A.S.S.
The waiting period for a Swift Diesel is a few months I guess but The Swift Petrol ZXi's should be easily available. Additional features such as ABS, Climate Control etc are definitely VFM features.

Well, I guess a test drive of the same would surely help your uncle out!

getz 1.3 seems like a good option.

else ask your uncle if he can wait for the splash/better engine for the i20/some other good hatches on the way.

PS: why petrol? ask him to do a TD of the getz CRDI. I think he will be properly blown away

alternately why not the baatlimobile? 1.6 engine means that it will be pretty fast, wel, except for the mileage

Yeah i told him about the Linea. He doesn't seems to have a good impression about Tata service, seems is colleague brain washed him against any tata/Fiat cars. But that dood has no idea about Skoda .

How is i20 when compared to Wagon R in the performance department ?

The car will basically come to us after 2 years as my uncle will move out of the city, so i am little worried about the choice he is making hehe

severely underpowered is what i heard. if he wants an improvement on the WR, he better look elsewhere.

I'm serious about the getz. It breaks many diesel stereotypes people have in their head , and more importantly, meets all his requirements

Its not seriously under-powered. Its good enough for a family. You wont get the Verna's kick.

And cant get it drive/ride quality in a Verna.

And there's always the Pete's box.

Wont suggest a Getz CRDi from a WagonR upgrade if the owner isnt young enough at heart.

i20 will be a good buy since he already is ok with Fabia.

+1.

My advice matches word to word with the above statement.

Say NO to Fabia !!!

since your uncle is anyway waiting till june, tell him to wait for the releases of the new vw polo, fiat punto and honda jazz!

IMO, these are three quality cars launching soon and are worth the wait.
I am eagerly waiting for especially the polo which I think should fit the bill of your uncle's requirements and will have a *wow* factor as it will be a fresh model.

+ the polo will be solid and safe.

EDIT: polo seems to be 2010 release, so I guess it's out.

cheers

Lend him your car if you have one and use his bike until the Jazz comes out! If you're effectively buying yourself a free car by proxy, might be worth it even in the heat!

Then your uncle can choose between the Ritz and the Jazz (if he finds them suitable) or stick with the Swift/i20/Getz/Fabia (if he doesn't).

I read the thread twice to believe that saiyan has initiated a serious discussion for a change

A thread on how to get a proper shine on a car from you is long due

On a serious note. I would second whatever nitrous said. Wait until June.

OP: Analyse the use of Article "the" here. Its The Getz CRDi. Not just any getz

Just let him loose on a TD.

Esp since it'll land in your hands in a while.
