Which Alto have you driven coz i can agree on handling but pickup no way.

Go for the Zen. Its much better to drive than the Alto, especially bcos of its ultra slick gear shift. The Alto IMO has one of the worst gear box.
Its also more spacious and looks more upmarket than the Alto.

definitly the zen.just love the looks of it which i fell is better than then alto (no offence to alto owners).its more spacious and to me its much better to move around in.

We own an Alto VXi 1.1 & i agree its looks are not something to talk about but come performance & its a drivers car :)

@arup10: I disagree with your comment on the gearbox of Alto, I for one never faced any problem in my father's car & found it quite easy & driver friendly.

Is this Alto 1.1 still in sales ( production) . If discontinued, just want to know when it was launched and what's its life

The Alto 1.1 is no longer in production. Production commenced towards late 2000 and ended in early 2004.

No its out of production, it was launched at the same time when Alto was launched. Initially there was only Lx & Vx Lx being 800cc & Vx being 1100 cc then came the spin models with EPS.

It was discontinued somewhere around mid 2003.

Old Zen over Alto (looks)
1.1 ltr over 1.0 ltr engine (power)

Its gotta be Zen over the Alto 1.1 for me. And its the old Zen over the new one whn it comes to looks.

Alto 1.1.... it handles.. it has a perfect tuned suspension... not a softy like zen.

Own a 1.1 Vxi... 2002 model..

Anyday alto1.1...its a underdog I agree. Not many people are aware of what that car was capable of...Its not a good looker(maruti trademark) with and awesome handler with loads of power. I think its still the quickest car among the small cars...and I love that car for sure.

Roadgrip is subjective when you know what kinda ****ty tires MUL shods its cars with. But for handling I would still vouch for the Alto1.1 its a mini sports car :D

Alto 1.1 VX is an excellent car. Pity that Maruti discontinued it. Zen is dated compared to Alto 1.1

Sorry to be blunt here...but those who believe that an Alto handles better than Zen (Ride and Handling are not synonyms) simply have not driven an Alto and Zen on a highway...alto has a far better ride but cannot come close to Zen in handling at all...I am sure the Alto might fail the "elk test" if it were subjected to one which the Zen may pass.
for the record...I owned an Alto (my FIL left it with me for 8 months) and also a Fiat Uno 1.2 att the same time and while the Ac was better in the Alto..the Uno was leagues ahead in high speed manners and handling...
