Any alternate to the Getz or Swift

my father/mother in law are looking for a small car. they just sold their Matiz so dont want anything much bigger (NHC ruled out on size).

does any one know of a locally available car that is as refined as these 2 in the small car segment?

must haves:
ASS
Refinment
Zippier than NHC (not difficult is it?)
Seat 4 adults and 1 child on occasion (when we visit).
Good Ride quality
Nice Seats (I saw a Santro with some nice seats today)
Rear wiper

Can haves:
Automatic
HID lamps
Auto door lock
motorised outside mirrors
stereo (HU, amp, front components, rear coax, bass tube).
alloy wheels

Pal I own a matiz and I can say that no current small car can match it.

You can try Wagon R. It is better than Santro and cheaper than Swift.

By the way whats your budget ?

budget: upto 7.5L. they were considering the basic NHC. but it is too big for them. the matiz is sold so they need a car in say 2-3 weeks.

You know what I'm also planning to buy a new car and after many days of research I have decided for a Baleno.

Maybe you can suggest that to your in-laws. On the other hand if you want a small car I would say Swift but there is a long waiting period for that I've heard.

In that segment there are:
WagonR
Santro
Indica Petrol
Fial Palio 1.2
Opel Corsa Sail
The last 3 are not recommended mostly, Tata due to refinement and FE of only 10 in city and fiat due to ASS. Corsa Sail is 3.99lac now, but i dont know how good or bad is tha car and ASS.

But why not the swift or the getz, any particular reasons?

Since you have a good budget and want smaller size than a full blown mid sizer a great option is the Hyundai Accent Viva (Petrol or Crdi, take your pick). I doubt you are very much concerened with handling, because apart from that factor its an excellent option, especially the diesel crdi which combines power with excellent economy of a diesel.

It is zippy both in petrol and diesel avatars, petrol is very very refined and you will get great ASS along with low maintainance costs.

A Fusion would be nice as well.

But, for 7.5 lakhs, I think the Getz is the best bet seeing you need the extra interior room.

My suggestions would be :

1. Getz.
2. Palio 1.6. (If he is in Mumbai, ASS should not be big deal). or Palio Sports.

If you can wait a couple of months then you could get an Aveo or even a Skoda Fabia.

if NHC is ruled out due to its size, then how about the esteem.

As far as roomy hatchbacks go there arent many alternatives to the Getz or the Indica, and the former is allegedly more refined - I suggest you decide for yourself. I hear the Swift is cramped for space, that would rule it out of contention if you agree.

Otherwise you could check out the Ford Ikon Flair (1.3 and very cheap) or the Accent Viva. These two would give you the added advantage of the boot.

The Fusion comes within your budget, but that is one car that hasnt taken off and therefore we cant say how long it will remain in the market. There are also too many uncertainties reg. the Fiat for the last one year or more to be able to recommend their product, especially when there is no dearth of alternatives.

hey navin since i don't see FE as your main criteria I would surely recomend Corsa Sail.

But if their running is gonna be more I would surely recomend Accent Crdi - after driving drifters car I am really impresed with that one

otherwise if you are fine about buying second hand car then go for MATIZ

First choice Maruti Baleno LXi.

Second choice Hyundai Accent Viva CRDi.

Both match your criteria perfectly.

If you can wait for the Fabia, still on't as the car is bound to be cramped.
If you want a Hatchback, get a Palio 1.6.
Since you live in Mumbai, Anuroop is a good dealer for FIAT so ASS should not be a problem.
The car is very comfortable, big, good looking and has everything that you ask for.
Other alternatives could be the Petra 1.2, the Ikon 1.3 Flair.
Even the Baleno will fit in however it is bigger then the other 2.

ok....thanks for all the help...i wanted to respond to each of you seperatly then realised that would be too much....thanks a lot again. now some clarifications.

1. the car must be small on the outside and large on the inside (hence i had recomended the NHC to them) read as good legroom and shoulder rooom. They find the Sail cramped. Nothing with a boot (they can borrow my Astra or Octy for those occasions). They prefer the comfort of the Astra to the Octy.

2. the car must be refined. Is the Getz more refined than the Swift? They did not like the Indica. How does the Palio compare. They dont need power but I do (when i visit) so is there a Palio 1.6/Sports still available new? How far is Anuroop from Versova. will they pick and drop the car off for service?

3. They are a 65+ couple and need the car to run about (from 7 bungalows to 4 bungalows in Versova) get groceries, visit a restaurant, etc..They are not going cross country maybe cross city once a month at best. FE is not a big deal. Their Matiz did 20,000km from 1999 to today. They are older now.

4. The car must be new and give trouble free service for 5 years esp since they live on the beach.

5. Think NHC-CVT without a boot/trunk. If Honda had a small hatchback that would be it. A Fabia hatch would be an option but my guess is the Fabia will be as cramped as the Sail or Octy.
