Satish Appasani - Please check up the specs of both the Indigo and the Petra D before commenting that the former is nowhere near the latter in power:
Steeroid, Please go through my post once again. I never mentioned about Petra. I was talking about Palio D.

And whatever I typed does not sound as a conclusion but it's my assumption. And I took the assumption from the experiance of a driver whom we appointed to drive my car from my Parents place to Hyderabad (A stretch of more than 400KMS). His master owns a Indigo. He was very excited after reaching Hyd. He mentioned that Indigo is very underpewered to drive with AC switched on and my car is much better to drive. And for sure, this guy does not have any knowledge of the numbers.

Ok
Here we go :
You want boot space and with budget of around 5.5 you can get :
Indigo, Petra, Ikon, Accent, Esteem

Now if you are not bothered about FE, accent is a good buy. But i guess it will be important.
Indigo Diesel TDi fits the bill perfectly since your parents will be using the back seat. Its got the best back seat among mid sizers.

Considering your requirements, I'd say the Indigo diesel. More so since they're used to comfy seats of Ambassador. The only car that betters Indigo in that respect in the same price bracket is the Contessa which I'm sure you wouldn't want to buy IF you stretch your budget, NHC has great backseat as well.

the voting clearly shows the winner is indica/indigo/marina from tata.

petra makes a close second(diesel for its Fuel efficiency and petrol for power)

See which car you like and whether the dealer you are buying from is good and reputed or not.The dealer service should also be a major concern when buying.

With the set of criteria mentioned, I'd go for the Marina (though personally I'd still opt for the petrol)
- Auto mag road tests have generally mentioned that the Marina is a more evolved product compared to the Indigos .. plus you get more space for approx the same price band .. buy the top end model, and I think you get alloys too .. plus IMHO it looks better than the Indigo.
Go for it ... take care of it .. it'll easily run for 5 yrs and more ..

Bought - Baleno Lxi

Frnds

I would be getting my Baleno today. Finally after much thought I settled for a Baleno.

Dealer : pratham motors
Color : Black
Stock Tyres ( opted for wheel caps), 3M Sunfilm (CS 35 ), Under Chasis coating, did not go in for the Teflon coating despite much persuasion...
Well thats about it...

Shall be taking delivery at by noon.

Yet to finalise on the : Music system & Security system.

hmmm am pretty excited now

By god, one more black Baleno. Soon we have to start a separate group for Black baleno owners of Bangalore. Keep them coming...

BTW, are you getting the new and improved Baleno with white tail lights?

hmm doesn't seem like new and certainly not improved, atleast for the Lxi model and with maruti only changing the color of the tailight.

Color : Black
That's great. Excellent choice..I have a black Baleno too! The black color seems to do a little bit to improve the plain looks. And yes, we have loads of people with T_Bhp with new Baleno's this year. And a lot of them are black!

3M Sunfilm (CS 35 ), Under Chasis coating
BTW can you tell us the price at which you got these, especially the sun film..

From what i have heard that the rear and the side sun films are not so effective. And it makes sense to go with the front screen also.

Strange that MUL still haven't updated their site with the new bits (yes bits) in the VXi .. climate control etc.

thanks guys....

The Baleno I got doesnt have the less-acclaimed White Tail Lights ( Didnt want to say Old model )

I was told that the Lxi has a glass with 14% natural tint.
Sunfilm: 3M CS35 has a light tint. Cost : 3600+ for four sides and rear.
Did not take the alloys, instead got the MGA wheel caps for 1300+.

Things on the horizon that I want for the baleno:
1. Security system - Considering Autocop. Budget - b/w 5-7K
2. Music system - Not a audio enthusiast, nevertheless want a system worthy of a Baleno ( looking for CD & Casette player ) Budget b/w - 13-16K. for the whole set
3. Seat covers. - Under 5K...

For the security,
get a gear lock along with a regular autocop.
It really helps and members can vouch for it.
For Audio get a Pioneer KEH 4750 for Rs 4750 along with Xplod front speakers - 800rs and Pioneer/Xplod rear speakers - 4.5K max.
Seat covers - You can get art leather.
It is quite cheap around 4K and feels quite rich too.
Enjoy your ride.
