There is a Getz Crdi available at nearly the same OTR price as the Swift Vdi in Bangalore. I personally own a swift and trust me it rattle your brains out . Only downside is, you might not get as good re-sale on the Getz. It has good FE, hassle free driving, good after sales.

If not, go for the Punto. Swift would be my last option.

Could you reconsider Ritz Vdi/Ldi? I guess we have a couple of new owners on this forum having ownership threads. The car is a new model and is available readily!

Getz crdi AFAIK is not being offered by Hyundai any more.

Do you think Swift is worth the wait for 1 / 3 months? If yes, then go for swift.

i20 crdi is high on cost and I guess does not fall in your budget.

Punto shall be my last recommendation, as you then shall have to deal with now infamous TATA-FIAT A.S.S

The moment you typed Resale Value, you narrowed your options down to Maruti.

Go for the Swift/Ritz.

Punto - Problem with A.S.S., resale *might* be a problem
i20- Priced too high.

Yes it is phased out! But there is ONE getz available from Hyundai in Bangalore for immediate purchase. I think this could be the last Getz Crdi to be sold in the country. I recently know of atleast 5 TBHPians who picked up the getz crdi in the last 10 days after it was phased out for a healthy discount of nearly a lakh.

Great marketing strategy.

Actually, more than being a nice marketing strategy its a steal for those looking at buying a car in this price range now. I know owners who picked up their getz for nearly 6.43L. Even they are crying over the fact that the car they picked up a few months back is going for this less now.

If you can get the Getz CRDi, then nothing like it else the SWIFT VDi.

NFS2024 : If you are ready to buy Swift VDi (without ABS), I suggest you have a serious relook at Indica Vista Quadrajet Aura (the top end variant in the vista stable)

After all it is the same engine + more spacious + is a good 30K cheaper (on ex-showroom price : therefore even more savings on OTR price)

And it meets all your three major requirements.

I suggest don't discard the Indica Vista. If I were you I would have put my money in the Vista.

Thats good news, do you know with which dealer it is available?

I have seen and test driven the Ritz but somehow did not like it. Call it looks or whatever and I already have a tall boy in terms of i10. Hence dont want to look at one more tall boy.

I agree with you on this.

What about the quality issues and resale of Indica? that is one of my main criteria as well.

I dare not suggest the Fabia in this case - I shall be banished in teamBHP dungeons forever

a. MJDs are useless in the city compared to a clean petrol
b. If you are about to relocate, why are you spending money on a new car?
c. 1500km/month is borderline. I have a 25k 10.3month old VDi.

I would recommend an i10 1.2 for you. Really the most practical car.

Even on math it trumps VDi till about 3-4 years (not to mention the fun of the 1.2 petrol)

I haven't heard about any major quality issues with the Vista. If anything, the "Indica" name affected its sales (due to the taxi image) : the quality of the car was not a major contributing factor to the "not so great" sales figures of the Vista. (If you see : I am referring to the car as "Vista" and not "Indica" )

In TBHP's "TEST DRIVES" section, see what is mentioned about Swift in the "What owners disliked" section

Lack of overall quality
Inconsistent fit & finish
Rear legroom and space
Stiff ride quality

And following is the "What owners disliked" information mentioned for Vista

Similar looking to the older Indica
Lack of outright quality
Inconsistent after-sales service
No ABS / Airbag option

So "quality" is an issue for both the cars !!

It has been widely accepted that Vista is a big improvement over the previous Indica : and with the Fiat 1.3 MJD as a powerhouse : not much can go wrong !! In terms of ride quality : Vista comfortably outclasses the Swift (and also provides more space !!)

About resale : if you buy the 1.3 MJD : I don't think resale will be affected too much. A major component of the car's resale value is decided by the quality of the engine.

What is the time horizon you are looking at for resale ? 3 years , 5 years ?

About service : This entirely depends on the reputation of the dealers in your area (applicable for both Swift & Vista).

a. No its not just meant for city driving alone, need a car for highways as well

b. This is not someting that is confirmed. I only meant just in case i need to relocate and sell off the car, I need a good resale value

c. Looks like you didnt read my earlier post. I already have an i10 1.2 and have done 20,000 kms in it in less than one year. So I know the virtues of the car well.

My need is for a second car and hence the search and queries to fellow bhpians

a. City = MJD achilles heel. i10 1.2 is good everywhere.
b. Ah okay. i10 won't disappoint in my limited understanding
c. You said i10, not i10 1.2

Drive a Swift D in slow city traffic, see whether the extra 1-1.2L is worth the whole hype. Of course, on highway 80-120 is awesome in this car

@NFS: Dude, the car is available at Advaith. But you should PM "brraj" for further details as he has booked the car by paying a temporary advance for any BHPian who might be interested. So find out from him, he has helped around 4 BHPians get the Getz in the last 1 week or so.

My order would be:
1. Getz.
2. Vista (tata has indeed come a long way from those days I used to own a V2).
3. Palio.
4. Swift.
