Swift Vdi / Punto Emotion ( diesel ) - Please help in selecting

Hello All;

I drive around 70kms per day in city. Driving an Petrol Esteem / Safari dint find it has an good option, so planning to sell Esteem and buy an small Diesel car.

1. Drive 70kms per day
2. 80% in City drive ( full of traffic zone, upto E city )
3. 20% Highway
4. Driving - 70% me & 30% my brother ( Gowda79 )

Cost difference between 2 cars is only 40k.

Swift Vdi - 612000 OTR - No discount
Punto Emotion - 652000 OTR - 12thousand discount

We are looking at an car which will
- reduce the daily expense & comfortable to drive in city.
- good initial pick up
- good mileage
- no problems in service

We are planning to book the car by Nov - Dec so that we will get a 2010 registered / manufactured car.

People kindly help in making a smart decision.

Regards
Deepak

Go for Punto or Swift Dzire Vdi. Swift Dzire Vdi is around 12000 more than Punto Emotion. But buying the Swift Dzire will mean you will miss the following features;
1. Seat height adjuster.
2. ABD+EBD.
3. Service Reminder.
4. Tilt Steering.
5. Foldable key.
6. Electrically Adjustable OVRM.
7. Rear Wiper + Washer.
8. Rear Defogger.
9. Cigarette Lighter.

But the other features are also available on swift Dzire Vdi.

From my signature you will know why.

- Swift should be easier to drive in city than punto. However, puntos ride quality is better than that of swifts.
- swift is peppier than punto in 1st and 2nd gear
- Mileage of swift is better than that of punto
- Maruti A.S.S is better than Fiat's

Take a TD of both vehicles and make a call - especially for the comfort aspect. But from your criteria, swift scores over the punto.

My vote goes for the swift. What you lose out in features, will be made up in superior driveability. The punto will be a pain to drive around in daily traffic where u need initial pick up more than anything. With the swift, You also have the advantage of better service, and resale value will be more too.

Have you considered the Ikon tdci ? It will be approx 6.2 OTR bangalore - a complete VFM package at that price. It's a great car to drive in city - driver oriented and fun to drive given it's usable torque range with great mileage.

However, Ford a.s.s may not be as good/cheap as Maruti's.

Read the reviews of it on this forum, and take a TD of it also.

Just to add, ABS is a must in the car.

Airbags is not mandatory.
Blue&Me or Alloys also not mandatory, cos Alloys will go in market

Test drive both cars. Swift VDi would take 2 months for delivery and punto a little less than that. Punto would give you wonderful mileage even with stop and go traffic.

I have owned both the cars, and trust me its very tough to pick one out of these if you done have your requirements clear.

Both cars have similar Fuel consumption and in gear acceleration with Punto scoring better in gear acceleration but Swift smokes Punto in Outright acceleration.

Pick Swift if you want-
1.Better Service support
2.Peppier car which is fun to drive in city.
3.Resale value is very important to you.
4.Dont mind driving a common car.

Pick Punto if want-
1.Sturdy car with Ride, Handling, Steering and High speed Stability in league of much more expensive cars.
2.More exclusive car with looks so good you'll keep staring at her all the time.
3.More Equipment and Safety features.
4.Rattle free build.

You can read my experience with both cars here--> http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-d...nde-punto.html

I will wouch for punto any day compared to swift. Trust me you will regret not buying this Italian beauty every time someone in Hot red punto will cross you buy. I have test driven Diesel punto and find it better than petrol when it comes to acceleration. Will suggest you a punto it being newer car in India with fresh looks than the same old Swift which offers zero features as compared to Punto.

By the way. How are you getting the discount is it company discount or corporate discount?

The bells and whistles in a car are not important than the car overall IMO.
As far as ABS is concerned ;Swift is available in VDi + ABS.

If you can do without the airbags go for the swift.
You get better :
Service
Fun to Drive Factor
Resale

I think it would be better if you could mention the other cars you own.
You own a safari too?

It would be a tough fight between both the cars as they both have their advantages and disadvantages and fan following.
ABS is available (optional) in swift diesel but the waiting period is awful for swift diesels with ABS.
Also swift has been on the Indian roads for long now. Punto is refreshing in that respect.

nothing wrong in either of them..

Swift pros over Punto:
Maruti service
peppier engine tune
smaller turning radius
probable higher resale

Punto pros over Swift:
loads of equipment
not so common car (refreshing change for other commuters on the road too )
better build quality (i recently drove a 4.4k swift which already started rattling)
longer service interval and comparable spare prices, so cheaper service costs. (somebody posted spares prices comparison list in initial reviews section)

where both clash:
comparable initial cost
comparable FE

edit: punto wins hands down in ride n handling too.

Owning an esteem I guess you already know how fragile maruti's are when it comes to facing the tourcher on indian roads. Swift makes more sense if you want outright acceleration. I will advice you to test drive both the cars and see for yourself. I am sure even your heart and head in this case will wouch for Punto.
According to me Punto's *** will be no problem if you live in a metropolitan city and have a service centre near your place.

Punto Features and advantages over swift according to me.
1. Very less waiting period if any.
2. Climate Control.
3. Foldable Key with remote lock
4. Blue and me and USB
5. Airbags
6. i am not sure but I think swift doesnt have Tilt adjustable steering wheel
7. Height adjustable front seat
8. Programmable service reminder, Outside temprature, follow me home headlamps
9. Clutch foot rest.
10. Rear defogger with washer and wiper
11. Auto AC
12. Audio controls on steering.
13. Better Ride and comfort.
14. Hundred times Better looks
15. Babes guranteed

Still if you miss outright accelration so much that you are ready to leave all the above things then Swift it is. Moreover what nobody mentioned here is that a new swift is also rumored for 2010. So it totally depends on you. Usually punto is matter of heart but if compared to swift its definately what a sensible head will also suggest. Seeing the number its selling, you wont feel very lonly for sure.
Cheers.
