Hi BHPians,

My dad has been driving the red colored 800 (with those imported engines, has done barely 70k kms) for a few years now and I would really like him to change that. His contention is that it gives best performance with an LPG kit compared to any other car with a/c. He doesn't drive much to warrant a diesel and petrol he finds expensive.

Here are my options:
1) I have my alto which is 5 years old, I can get LPG kit fitted into it.
2) I can get a new 800 LPG ac

My budget allows me only these options as of now :-).

Forgot to mention, he believes in 'don't fix it till its broken' for cars too :-). That means services, even free aren't guaranteed :-). for this reason I have kept xeta lpg out.

Do a price benefit analysis before concerting or buying a LPG car.

Cost of lpg kit = X.

Y = (Price per km for petrol) - (Price per km for lpg)
Number of kms to recover cost paid for lpg kit = X / Y

Now decide if lpg makes sense or not in your case.

This analysis is kind of turned on its head here :). As total cost of extra lpg kit - mileage does not apply as two different people bear the cost.

As I am paying for the car and my dad for the lpg usage. so please let me know the better of the 2 options here.

You want to get a car for your parents.
A car with an extremely low day to day cost of ownership.


Of your two suggestion.
The alto, is it power steering?
If your dad is going to drive himself, it would be a big + for the Alto.

otherwise, I would go with a new M800 Duo

The Chevy spark LPG is another option you might want to consider.
Do check if the 3 year 0 Rupees Maintenance offer is applicable on it.

Yes the alto is with power steering Lxi version.

So the factory kit does not have that great an advantage .. or power steering is a big factor (I would agree with it ).

My reasoning is that after market LPG fitments are more common and reliable when compared to an after market power steering set up.
But that only holds if you need power steering. :)

Would not suggest fitting an aftermarket LPG kit on a 5 yr old car, unless there is a sentimental value attached to it (to keep it for long time) and also, use it a lot.
Give him the Alto as is, save the LPG cost and use it for additional petrol expenses.

If the choice is a new car - either the factory fit Alto LPG or Spark LPG (both with power steering of course). I would choose the Spark, if money is not a big constraint.
