Dude, were you high or something when you typed that.?!
I bet you can't find a hatchback safer than i20 Asta (o) in India today.

Contrary to the common perception here, I don't find i20 to be particularly spacious.Rear legroom is less-than-average while I drive since I need the driver's seat pushed all the way back. Both front and rear seats lack in thigh support too.

It may be more spacious than some other hatches, but remember a hatchback is still a hatchback.

Ford could not cash on a proven car Fusion , risk seekers can consider untested Figo given the short lifecycle of Ford products.

Fiat again has been agressive but will die a slow death with Polo in for a long haul.
Hyundai i20 , is the safest hatch available today. Please do not make baseless statements without gathering knowledge or driving the car.

Polo, i would say lacks on the features front, plus the engine options are not at all exciting, if these two points can be avoided it is a great car.

What is wrong with you guys?

This thread and sub-forum is about INDIAN cars.

Whatever is sold abroad in noway reflects on whatever will be sold in India till the time the production units aren't the same.

Thanks to lack of reviews for the Polo, this discussion has lost its purpose.

PLEASE stop this pointless bickering.

How about the Fiesta?

Do you think you want to wait for the Punto Sports? I am guessing with 90 bhp, it'll be reasonably quick.

The SX4 itself is a very very accomplished and sadly under-rated sedan.

Have you clearly defined your requirements?

All the best for the search and keep us tuned.

Just saw this sheet- wonder WHO will opt for the Punto if they see this comparison? I mean, does it make any logical sense paying the same for the car and losing out on so many features as compared to the i-20?

Yes that is completely true, i was surprised by the polo's lack of features and absence of necessities, such as door locks which normal humans use and also electrical OVRM's .

How about elaborating on that, Anshuman? I was also (pleasantly) surprised by the 1.2s pep and go.

Too bad about the refinement though.

I went to the Gurgaon VW yesterday to TD the diesel variant, they are not offering TD for the diesel car yet so decided to drive the petrol car although i am a diesel guy.

The Petrol version feels quite peppy for its small engine size and the car's heavy build. Frankly i never expected this car to be have this good driveability. I found the midrange power delivery even better than the more powerful Punto 1.4 Petrol. At higher revs anyone sitting in the car can recognise the 3 cylinder engine note though i like the exhaust note. This engine feels very comfortable running in an higher gear in traffic.

The ride composure is worth an applause, though this car lacks the deep bump absorption found in Punto it still delivers a very composed ride. The gearbox has very nice shift actions, it feels similar to a Jetta.

The EPS might sap lesser power and maybe the masses might like the light steering but i absolutely hate EPS. The artificial feel takes away the driving pleasure a conventional Hydraulic power steering system offers. The only EPS i have liked till date is the one offered in Skoda Superb.

I would love to see more powerful TSi and TDi engines in the Comfortline variant. The car just like Punto screams for a more powerful engines to showcase its superb dynamics.

The Salesman also informed me about the cheaper TSi Passat coming next month but he denied any knowledge of Jetta TSi. According to him the Jetta will continue to be sold with the existing 1.6MPFI engine.

Anshuman, your observations are right! I did a test drive recently, however I felt that i10's Kappa engine is smoother than Polo's 3 cylinder petrol. Apart from the ones listed by you, these are some things that I noticed:
1. Excessive front overhang may scrape king-size road humps.
2. You need to literally slam the doors to close them, otherwise they won't shut properly. Hearing a solid "thud" while closing doors assures quality, but this one feels like Tata Estate door.
3. Dash board is bland and feels rudimentary in base version.
4. Seat fabric in base version is bland.
5. Not many creature comforts and nifty features compared to Hyundais.
