it does not, 4 wheel caps cost 1650. average service spares have been pegged at 800 bux and a few bodyparts like front bumper at 3k, rear bumper at 5k, mirrors at 1.5k dont seem expensive to me. i have confirmed these prices with VW gurgaon.

I'd have recommended the Polo if you wanted a petrol but since it's the diesel, I'd go for the Punto MJD. It's a a good performer especially on the highway. Turbo lag is not as bad as in the Polo. The Polo's 3-pot TDI isn't just as refined as the MJD.

But I'd not have gone for the Punto if space and quality was my priority. The Punto's rear seat is more cramped than any other car in the market. It does not even have a wide rear bench for an occasional 5th passenger.

IMO polo and punto both have similar rear space and look and handle equally well with punto having a better engine , but the interiors are so bland and plastics so horrible you just dont feel its the same car. uts like saying that with things like looks and handling being the same punto has a marginally better engine than polo but polo has way better interiors than punto

I don't think there's any competition here. The fully loaded Punto is cheaper than the Polo and scores better on the engine factor (+1 cylinder, better refined, lesser turbolag), ride & handling (both are competent), equipment (Punto has the edge) and build (both are equal). The most obvious area where the VW Polo comes out on top is the excellent interior fit & finish (where the Punto is sorely lacking).

VGT or no VGT, Punto it clearly is.

Punto MJD

I would go for Polo TDI 'ONLY IF' I'm obsessed with the interior fit & finish, or else Punto MJD it is for me . If you have to choose between a 3-potter and a 4-potter, I would choose a 4-potter eyes closed.

The Home Minister is planning to sell our Honda City and get herself either a Punto Multijet Emotion Pack or a Polo TDI Highline. As per her, the Polo appeals to the head while Punto appeals to the heart.

What she likes on the Polo:
1. Premium feel on the interiors thanks to the superb fit and finish
2. Boot release (very helpful on her shopping trips) on remote
3. Windows opening and closing on remote
4. Brand value/Brand desirability
5. Smaller turning radius when compared to the Punto
6. The AC vents can be fully shut
7. Steering can be adjusted for reach too
8. Good shoulder room in the front

What she doesn't like on the Polo:
1. Lack of basic features like electrically adjustable mirrors
2. No USB/ AUX IN
3. Engine as noisy as Punto
4. Why pay more for less when compared to the Punto?
5. No free service when almost every car company offers three free services
6. A-S-S is unknown territory
7. No height adjustable seat belts
8. No dead pedal
9. Funny door locking system

What she likes about the Punto:
1. The shape/ looks
2. Fully loaded
3. Blue and me with voice commands
4. Music system and phone controls on steering
5. Thumbrests on steering
6. Climate control AC, but the Polo's AC is a chiller too
7. Better ride and handling compared to the Polo
8. Cheaper than the Polo, but offers so much more
9. Better engine than the Polo
10. Auto door lock
11. Height adjustable seat belts

What she doesn't like on the Punto:
1. Poor fit and finish
2. Bigger turning radius than the Polo
3. No boot release on remote
4. No windows opening and closing on remote
5. AC vents can't be fully shut
6. Steering can't be adjusted for reach
7. Lack of proper cup holders

I've asked her to wait for the Punto VGT before she makes a decision.

Sorry about the double post, but there is a very important point I forgot in my post and I don't see an edit button to add the same:

What she likes on the Polo:
9.The Polo has better ground clearance than the Punto.

Could this be a typo, Thar? The GC of Polo is 168mm and that of Punto MJD, 171mm. Petrol models come with 173mm.

Sir, on paper you're 100% right, but the Punto scraped on the same route where the Polo didn't. Maybe, the wheelbase made the difference.

Polo TDI Highline wheelbase: 2456mm
Punto MJD Emotion Pack wheelbase: 2510mm

any plans for an engine upgrade on the VW? the current engine lineup is rather pathetic(being performance oriented here).
yes the punto is getting the vgt soon which will make things better but!!

the already leading swift may wipe out the competition after the model change launch.

Voted for the Punto. But still its the "German" solidity which all always makes one think, if I did right in choosing Punto over Polo.

In my opinion, has Polo been stress-tested enought through in production and usage, to come to stage where it can be compared to Punto? At least I dont think so. It would take another year or so for the full food-chain to stabilize to make the comparison more realistic.

Comments welcome.
