3K is still on the higher side if you are getting the Hyundai-Minda one, apparently they will just use the radio transmitter & alarm.. All motors wiring etc are in place already.

Congrats on your new car..

BTW: Why did you sell your iRDE, is it just that power shortage ?

.

Yes lack of power is one reason. I had 3 people (not fat, but medium build) and one co-passenger while driving the iRDE and it was short of power! I could literally feel the pull that was missing. I felt a little let down so i wanted to replace this with the kappa! i am sure happy that i made the right decision.

MutantX -
1. Does i10 Sportz ICE have USB and aux-in?
2. Does remote central lock come by default in sportz variant?
3. I did not see an ownership thread on your i10kappa. Did i miss it?

WindRide.

1. Sportz ICE - OE HU doesnt have USB. It only has AUX-in for Ipod/mobile/other devices

2. No remote central lock with Sportz. But the dealer had provided me central lock was OE Hyundai (CrosslinkWheels) provided by the dealer. This costed 3k extra.

3. I am yet to write a ownership report as it has been just a month since I got the car. I would want to wait for atleast 3 months before I can write a detailed report. I seriously felt I would need understand the Kappa before I could write a detailed report.

WindRide, are you planning to buy Sportz? what is your requirement?

The recent offer by Hyundai is very tempting. So considering one.

1. Confused between iRDE and Kappa. Since you moved from one to another, let me know your opinion between them in terms of power/pulling capability.

2. Are you noticing a decrease in mileage between irde and kappa?

3. iRDE seems to be a better option than Kappa for city-driving (stop-start/bumper2bumper traffic). Do you feel similarly with your 1 month experience?

Nothing like hearing it from the horse's mouth

well, let me go one by one:

1. The general perception is that Kappa is better if you are doing much of highway driving. But I would advice you to pick Kappa since it is a 4 potter all aluminium engine. Latest is always better as Kappa is proven in terms of power and handling.

2. Well mileage has been better on the kappa. To be frank with you, with the kinda traffic i encounter in chennai, I used to get 10-11 on iRDE. Kappa gives me 11-11.5 kmpl. These figures might be bad compared to what other are quoting, but my office stretch is the worst! any car that needs to be TD'ed should be TD'ed in the roads i travel everyday!

3. iRDE is the essentially the same engine as the eRLX from the Xing. iRDE has peak torque at 2800rpm as against 4400rpm of the Kappa. Seriously speaking if you are going to travel with 1 or 2 passengers either wouldnt make any difference. Infact, i found it easier to drive on the kappa with B2B traffic. *it is just my perception*.

Apart from that, Sportz & Asta are available only on the kappa platform. The price difference between the kappa & iRDE is less than 12k. With 80 horses to unleash, i would suggest go for Kappa.

Again as for the trim, it all depends on what you want.

-> go for Magna if you want to setup your own ICE.
-> Go for Asta if you want ABS & airbags.
-> go for Sportz if you want the following:

-> Basic OE ICE with Aux-in
-> rear wiper and de-fogger. these are useful during rainy season. VERY USEFUL
-> ajar door opening warning & seatbelt warning indicators
-> led-lit rear spoiler
-> boot-lamp

The last two can be added aftermarket but you would end up spending 5-6k and compramising on factory finish.

All the trims come with standard tyres (155 80 R13). I upgraded them within 2 weeks. I had gone for Yoko-A Drive 185 60 R14 with i20 OE alloys. The initial problem of road noise that I had with the OE tyres are now eliminated.

Please let me know if you have anything else to clarify.

I was faced with the same dilemma.
Initially I thought I'd opt for the Era 1.1.
I was getting a used 2009 Sportz for the same price.
Then I figured I'd stick with a new car.
Finally upgraded my choice to a Kappa 1.2 Magna, hoping for better pick-up and fuel economy.
