You are getting a fantastic price for the Baleno Lxi. If that is true, go for it, replace the tyres with alloys and tyres as on the Vxi, an Mp3 player - all this will set you back some 30K - you'll have a blast with it.

ok have you had a look at the lancer?

It is based on the lancer evo and is a newer car than the baleno.

The 1.5 is excellent handler and fun to drive with good FE as a bonus.

and the 1.8 is such good to burn the road that you wouldnt want to stop.

the recent price revisions make it cheaper the the baleno and NHC at the ex-showroom price and you will get a lot of freebies too.

burn the road on a test drive of the lancer to know if the lancer is decent enough.

Well check out the lancer.
Awesome handling, good looks, good price, space and comfort are also better then most competition and the engine good enough for daily requirements and more.
Also it is safer then the baleno.
Second option would be the fiesta.

I was very keen on the Innova but didnt pick it up for the very reasons you are avoiding it, however I must add that Innova took me by surprise in terms of ease of driving and the sheer luxury. The NHC Vtec is a good buy but it costs close to 9.4 lakhs in Bangalore. I really wouldnt reccomend a Desel considering the 25-35 kms per day.

to add on top of the lancer stuff. Now you can get your lancer modified to your personal taste through the dealers and they discount the prices for the new unused spares you give back.

It costs less than the vtec and with modifications a lancer 1.5 is known to easily make around 110bhps.

Lancer Mods??

Devarishi, Are thee modifications done by HM or by the delaers? Will the warranty hold true if the dealers do some mods? 110bhp? Do you have some more details on the mods? Tried checking this with the B'lore dealer but he did not have anything to offer on this?

I was in India in August 2005.

I had gone for a test drive through Autonova Mitsubishi in AHmedabad.

The sales person has been around for many years now and I know him well.

after the TD I asked "why no sfxi for 1.8?"

He said dealers had to keep too much inventory. So Mitsubishi now makes only 1 model and now the modification part is given to the dealers.

The sales guy said they will modify the car the way I want and take the new unused spares back against cash.

regarding the bhp figures. I just guessed but maybe this thread will help more.

the lancer here is quoted at 135bhp(probably the invecs)

Down to two!

Thanks for all your input.

After carefull consideration based on your suggestions. I have now narrowed down my choice to two:

1. Baleno lxi:
Primarily for VFM @600,000 OTR Bangalore. Ownership cost would go to 655,000 with
Neo Alloys
Yoko Tyres
Console Silvering
Body color for SideMirror's and Door trims
Digital clock
All round llumar sunfilm
MGA central locking
Aftermarket fog lamps
Vxi Rear Glass (to include defogger)

Baleno may not have the interiors and the room that we desire but so does the Fiesta exi or Accent gle which are its competitors. Coming to Performance I think it is at par with the fiesta exi( so why pay xtra 50k when I can get so much done on the baleno for the same) and above the Accent. It also does not hurt my pocket and falls neatly into my budget.

My only concern is I am going to keep the car for 5 years and hope that both me and my family do not start regretting the looks, space within a year or two.

2. Chevrolet Optra Elite:
Again primarily for VFM @ 820000 OTR Bangalore in its segment. Also It has the space and comfort that we look for. I am pretty sure that both me and my family will not start to regret the spae, looks and ride comfort for the next 5 years

My concern here is the car would pinch my pocket by an additional 150,000/- and would affect other investments that I would like to make for the next 2/3 years.

I am sure many working professionals in team bhp would have faced dilemma similar to mine in their purchase too. Hence I hope you will give me some good advice once again...

Cheers

Hey great choices.

But look at the hyundai elantra now at such a great price.

you will just be paying a bit more on the baleno and getting a n excellent car.

The petrol elantras are going with great discounts and sure you wont regret it 3 years down the line.

Baleno...Baleno...Baleno

Hi EveryBody,

Wish you all a Happy New Year.

Had one of my best new year's eve; Me and Mrs and the Son spent time from 7 - 10 pm at Pratham motors watching my Baleno getting personalised.

Afterwhich we had a nice quite dinner discussing the Baleno. Significant to note is my Mrs shared my passion completely to the T for once.

Finished with ( at the dealers)
1. Console Silvering
2. Body color for SideMirror's and Door trims
3. MGA 068 central locking (...no wire cutting)
4. Fog lamps
5. Exhaust tip

Today/Monday
6. League /BSA/ Neo Wheels
7. Yokohama/Potenza / Nct 5 Tyres ( what do you all think about F1's?)
8. 100/130 lights with relays, new sockets, fuses, et all
9. 3m undertreatment and Rubber paint coat

thats all, Please give your comments and will appreciate if the team points out any body treatment for shine etc...

Also, Got the Car for 600,000 and paid the dealor additional 8k for the first 5 items. Will get delivery at 9:30 am today....Can't wait.

good choice man, one more thing which will help to confirm the Baleno choice over the Ford - maintenance costs. Ford Fiesta spares are costly for the segment it is in. For example, bumpers are about 15K each. My four years as a Ford owner left me with a bad taste in the mouth with their service. Maruti service is cheap, and what's more, there are plenty of competing MASS garages so you are not bonded for life to only one garage.

Hey, even I have booked a Baleno. So what it is this 3M treatment all about? Is it different from the anti-rust which the dealer suggests?
And me too figuring out the tyres. My priorities are Comfort, FE, looks and then handling. What could be good for mumbai roads?

Thanks

Did the following today:
6. BSA 282 14*6
7. Good Year Eagle f1 195/60 R14 ( unbelievable deal)
8. Put in a stock K& N filter instead of the lights modifications.
9. 3m undertreatment and Rubber paint coat.

Guys, I am very confused about the lights; the current ones wont do and the guys in the aftermarket accessories shop dont seem any good , am worried that they will goof up... Hoping team Bhp helps.

Also, what would be a good make/type of art leather that would be good for long drives ( 600+ km) and wouldn't sweat or burn?

I saw some and liked Perforated Dolphin( Rs 5000) and Perforated G sport (Rs 7000@hottracks, yet to bargain)

Oops and BTW, Pic's will be out tommorrow!
