umpteenth thread for a car within 6-800000

I know this the umpteenth thread for a car within 6-800000 but I promise my problems are unique. My family (read me and the mrs) have been in the market to buy a car in the 6 - 8, 00,000 bracket for 6 months now (6-8 means ideally would like it to be around 6 -7 and can stretch out to 8).

I normally take quick decisions when it comes to buying stuff etc but this one has had me stumped. I therefore requisition all your help.

Here are my queries.

1. I drive 35 - 40 km/day average; I intend to drive the car I buy for the next 5 years. What should I buy petrol or diesel?

2. As a family we all love good room in a car; I've had a dodge caravan and currently drive an Indica both of which have good room in their segments. Mrs is pushing for an Innova though we are only 3 of us. Does an Innova make sense( I know the G2 is about 900000)? Primarily because the 25kms out of 40km that I do is in jam packed Bangalore city traffic.

3. I would like a car with a decent mileage (not ultra frugal, mind you ) and market average spares. Remember I drive in Bangalore side mirrors, tail lights and bumper are the worst hit.

4. Last but not the least I would like the car to behave well i.e have good handling and ride comfort

I really really hope this thread will solve my problem (I am also sure that V1p3r, Samurai, Rudra and Iceman are smiling as they read this)

Also please note BLR OTR prices of some of the cars after discounts are
Petrols
Accent 570000
Baleno lxi 605000
Baleno vxi 705000
Fiesta 1.4 645000
Fiesta 1.6 zxi 725000
Elantra gti 793000

Diesels
Viva Crdi 752000
Accent Crdi 790000
Fiesta Tdci 806000
Innova g2 850000

I suggest you check out the Optra 1.6. Its within your budget and an absolute stunner since they started offering it with black exteriors + beige interiors. For the three of you looking for room, ride and handling it fits the bill perfect.

Take a test drive. You will be impressed.

Ride - Elantra, Fiesta/Baleno, Accent
Handling - Does it really matter at the speeds you would be travelling within the city?
Go for the Fiesta or Baleno.
Fiesta would probably be slightly more expensive on all fronts - Price, Fuel, Maintenance , but you get a newer car with more image/snob value.

I would suggest Ford Fiesta 1.4 Diesel - as you will most probably be driving in the city and long distances too.
Nice modern diesel, frugal, comfortable with good interiors as well.

In case you do not like diesels much as GTO suggested an Optra 1.6 is a very nice car as well.

Chevorlet Optra 1.6 makes sense here. Meets most of your demands, its not bad on FE as well. Is spacious, has got a big boot. Ride and handling decent.

The Optra 1.6 base models are around 8.5 ish out here .. that is considering no discounts. What sort of discounts are available nowadays ? Will it bring the price below 8 ?

Thats right, Its 8.5 here for the base optra 1.6 in bangalore too. Can't afford so much for a petrol one.

I might have given it a thought in case it was diesel with the fond hope that the initial investment will be offset against the running costs.

Then in your budget and requirements the Ford Fiesta diesel (unless that too goes above 8?) should be fine!
I just the Chevrolet site and it has the most idiotic thing ever..I cannot check a price in a city - either gives me an error or blanks - or you can ask a dealer via email or something...
Why would I come to the site to do that , I would rather call the dealer from yellow pages :-s

Fiesta TDCi diesel seems like a logical choice. If you go for the Elantra petrol, its a steal at 7.9 on the road and pretty roomy too.

Can some informed members help me out with how much can discount can I squeeze out Gm for the Optra 1.6 LS Beige?
Currently I am getting a 50000 cash discount.

BLR OTR price = 905000 - 50000 Cash Discount = 855000/-

The discount in Bombay (including finance discounts) is almost a lac. See if that helps as a yardstick.

What about the NHC VTEC ? If its predecessor was anything to go by, it will be fast, frugal and reliable.VTEC owners are really a satisfied bunch, and I see no one really regretting their purchase.

The diesel returns around 11kmpl in city and around 15 on the highway.
Petrol gives around 7kmpl and 13kmpl city and highway respectively.
