Re: Punto MJD 75 E+ vs Polo 1.6 Highline

Congrats! you have bought a gem of a car!
I take my car to prerna motors on the hosur road and the service is exceptional.
You will absolutely love it, but do remember to do a good PDI.
and remember, the more you run it, the better it gets.

I disagree on this, can we have the break-up of the costs please. I paid 5k+ for the 30,000kms service for my Punto. One of the filters costs close to 1500bucks and Synthetic oil too costs upwards of 2k, so it cannot be serviced for under 3000 bucks unless Mineral Oil is used.

Anshuman, that's a petrol 1.4 Punto. Hence the cost is less.

Re: Punto MJD 75 E+ vs Polo 1.6 Highline

Well, first of all, running is low, only 16,000kms in 1yr and 5months. Thus total number of visits to the service station is only 3, 2 scheduled services and 1 unscheduled visit to fix some window rattling and a noise from the rear suspension.

We did use the FIAT recommended Selenia engine oil during the 2nd service at the end of 1 year. The cost of 1st service and the unscheduled service was 0 Rs. The only cost yet incurred during the 2nd service, a total of Rs. 2821.

The breakup:

1. Engine oil: Selenia Synthetic Oil: Rs.1626.67 for 3Lts
2. Oil Filter: Rs.124.44
3. Fuel Filter: Rs. 342.22
4. Air Filter Element: Rs 293.33
5. Wiremesh Filter: Rs.39.11
6. Brake Liquid: Rs. 69.33
7. Distilled Water: Rs. 12.44

Taxes: Rs.313.44

Total of Rs. 2820.98

Parts to be replaced and jobs to be done were all carried out according to the manual, and according to the specific list of jobs that were mentioned in their service lists as displayed at the service station.

Other than this, 2000Rs was spent on a coat of underbody paint.

OT :
Please look at the car before blatantly denying owners claim. Its 1.4 Petrol. Hence the service costs are lesser. For 1.3 Diesel, the oil change service costs will be around 4K. This is because of comparably higher cost of Diesel filter with water separator and sensor. This costs around 1800.

By the way congrats Pyro on the car.

Firstly I am sorry i did not see this Punto was Petrol. Just because Pyrotec picked a Diesel, i thought we were discussing Diesel version's service costs.

I find Punto Diesel with service costs of 5k+ excluding the labour to be costly for a car of this segment.

.
Point clarified above. I feel 5k for a free service is expensive for a car of this segment.

Re: Punto MJD 75 E+ vs Polo 1.6 Highline

Folks,
Thanks for all the good wishes. Can't wait to get my hands on the car now. I have resorted to counting the days.

Also, I ordered for the rear spoiler and reverse parking sensors. I was slightly worried that the latter would dampen the aesthetic quotient a bit, but from the fitments I've seen they seem reasonably good. In any case, function over form with this one!

Last edited by Pyrotek : 22nd April 2011 at 12:15. Reason: added information on accessory fitments.

Re: Punto MJD 75 E+ vs Polo 1.6 Highline

Congrats on the booking! Good decision!

I thought i made a wise decision by buying a petrol car. I thought my running will be less than 1000 km per month. I presumed the capital I would invest in buying a diesel can be used to buy 'petrol' and other acc. for my petrol car. Now i have ended up driving ~3000 per month! and every time i go to fill petrol, it hurts!!
Still I'm happy with my car. Its the fuel guzzler petrol Elantra!

Re: Punto MJD 75 E+ vs Polo 1.6 Highline

Folks,
The car has arrived at the dealer's stockyard. I have been told its VIN ends with BMZ, indicating a Feb make. That's ok, I'll be doing a thorough PDI tomorrow anyway.

If all goes well, I should have the car in my hands next week. Thanks again everybody for the helpful suggestions and comments.

All set to start a new adventure now. First car my father bought was a Fiat, and now the first car that I am buying myself is a Fiat. Life does indeed bring us around, full circle.

Anshuman, yes, 5k for a service looks a little steep, but considering the factor the car goes to service only once in every 15,000km, I would say the cost is only reasonable. You owned a swift so you would know how much you paid for a service for 5000km cycle. Also, factor in the time you save from 1 service to 3.

Ditto with me. I wish you a wonderful and hassle free ownership experience with the Punto. Hope it serves you well and meets all your expectations!
