Re: Maruti Swift Servicing at 20,000 KM

My Swift Ldi is nearing this 20k kms service as well. I had completed two years before clocking 20k kms, hence the free service has been utilized. What kind of tricks should i look out for when i give my car for service this time?

From the previous post i gather the following, please feel free to add,
1. Engine Flush - not required unless switching oil
2. Transmission fluid - not required @ 20k
3. Brake Fluid - may require top-up
4. Wheel alingment - should i get this done outside?
5. Coolant - only top-up

1. Engine Flush - Is not required.
2. Transmission fluid - only required if you have covered 20k km after the last change or if it has been 2 years since last change.
3. Brake Fluid - This needs to be changed again as per the 2 year or 20k km principle.
4. Wheel alingment - You can get it done outside
5. Coolant - This again needs to be checked as per the 2 year/20 k km principle mentioned above.

These details are mentioned in the Manual also.

Re: Maruti Swift Servicing at 20,000 KM

Hi Team,

Please find my 40000 KM Service charges below. Let me know if they are reasonable.

Initially he had put 1200 for Engine Flushing and quoted an estimate of 5400. I did not see in the morning when I gave the car. Later I saw that and was hell bent on not paying for it.

He called me to tell the total cost was 4956 or something and asked me to collect the car. I went in with sole idea of removing that engine flush cost and did not see the other items in the first bill he gave me.

Asked the SA to show where is it written on booklet and he immediately agreed to remove it. Also saw the labour cost was 900 in the actual cost sheet but was showing up as 950 in the final bill. Told him about that he agreed to reduce it by 50.

Still feel that we are sitting ducks a these service centers until we start to educate throughly about the car internal working/ part cost.

I was fleeced at 20000 KM servicing for 8K plus. Inspite of being tbhpian my laziness led me not to check the useful posts here and I ended up paying dearly.

Thanks

BheemBoy, you didn't mention if your Swift is K series petrol or G13BB petrol. I guess 20K servicing schedule differs a little for both.

There is ABSOLUTELY NO plausible reason to do engine flush at just 20K. It is just another way of taking the customer to the cleaners! Good that you insisted on not paying this unwarranted and unnecessary cost. Going by the looks of it, since SA even agreed to non-reluctantly strike off Rs. 1200 for engine flush, it makes one doubt if they even did the engine flush in the first place. It would be nearly impossible for a layman customer to figure out if the procedure has even been carried out. One has to trust the service center in good faith.

This is what I call, ahem, Team-BHP remorse. Not doing your homework on TBHP before embarking on an unknown journey such as a major scheduled/unscheduled maintenance of your vehicle. Anyway, it makes one a wiser person for the next time.

The cost charged to you for spares and labour look quite reasonable. They didn't even charge you for puncture repair. What you've been charged is very much within the range of average cost for 20K service of petrol Swift.

Few things:
-------------

1. In K series Swift (if that's what you have), I think MASS puts 10W30 motor oil instead of 20W40. In Delhi, some MASS centers even put 10W30 on G13BB Swift. I wonder why they put 20W40? But 20W40 should be OK even for K series, I guess.

2. They didn't charge your for "caliper pin greasing". This is another cost I've seen several MASSes charging the customer. This charge varies from 200-300. Good for you, you didn't get charged.

3. Same goes for "drum brakes cleaning".

4. They didn't seemed to have topped up battery water. I hope they checked it and didn't find a need for it. Otherwise there is a (small) charge for it under the main items head.

5. There is no mention of wheel alignment/balancing. If you don't tell them NOT do it, MASS usually does it at 2x the aftermarket rate. Again, I hope you did it from outside.

Re: Maruti Swift Servicing at 20,000 KM

Thanks gsbhatia.

This was G13BB and it was 40 K Servicing.
I had asked them not to do the wheel alignment / balancing.

Is it ok if they put 20W40 in G13BB instead of 10W30? I will check the booklet again.

After the servicing everything is hard/tight. The clutch / Brake / Hand brake. I guess they will loosen up after sometime.

Lost one of the wheel caps while on the move after a day or two after servicing. Not sure if they had removed while cleaning and fixed it loosely or it just came out on it's own.

New wheel cap set costs around 1600 and I am not sure if they have the same old model wheel cap that came initially with VXI.

The SA calls me and asked for feedback. (8/9/10)
If we give 8 or 9 we need to give our comments it seems. He was demanding for 10.

More or less I am not really happy but just satisfied with the work.

Yes, for G13BB, 20W40 is the grade recommended by Maruti. I, myself, put after-market 10W40 Castrol Magnatec in my G13BB Swift. In general xW40 can be poured instead of yW40 where x<=y.

I guess that's the OEM price from MASS. I would suggest inquiring local tyre-wallah for original wheel caps. Many folks swap their steel wheels + caps with alloys, and the tyre shop may be willing to sell wheel caps for significantly less than MASS list price. Also that's the best bet for getting only one cap instead of full set (does MASS compulsorily sell full 4 or 5 set wheel caps? Not cool.) I've also seen full wheel caps going on sale at TBHP Classifieds, so you may want to keep a look out there as well.

Re: Maruti Swift Servicing at 20,000 KM

Giving my Swift Vdi w ABS for 20k service on this monday. Want to know if there is anything specific that I need to tell Maruti to take care of.

Car's running great, no complaints, except for one OEM tyre that keeps getting punctured. But hey, cant do anything about that. I'm gonna get my wheel balancing and allignment done from outside.

Anything that I need to watch out for in terms of engine servicing. Engine oil is mineral. Car is stock.

Do not fall for useless things like Engine Flush, Additives etc and you should be fine.

Expect a bill of about 5k

Nothing much, as said don't use any additives or engine flush! You may want to do an intercooler cleaning [This is preferred when the car is sluggish & excessive smoke under acceleration]. And if you have been using the using the external air circulation mode, please get your blower / fan cleaned. It's worth even if you use internal circulation. In Bangy, I have seen the blower getting dusty with internal circulation in 20K kms. This should NOT be expensive as removing the blower from under the dash is a 5 minute job for the A$$ guys.

I've given it for only the regular servicing, with wheel allignment and balancing to be done from outside, and I got an estimate of 4900 for the servicing and 1050 for the labour. Add taxes etc... and the total estimate is coming to 6500Rs. Is this excessive? I've not asked for anything extra, apart from whats listed in the service manual.

Service center is Sai Service, Pheonix Mills, Parel.

Should be getting my car later this evening. Will post the detailed bill then.

Re: Maruti Swift Servicing at 20,000 KM

Looks about a 1000 bucks too expensive to me. You sure there are no additives ? No flushes ? Brake pads et all ?

If you've gotten the 3 free services from the same MASS, please push for a discount on labour charges on this service.

Yes, Im sure there are no additives, no flushes, no brake pads. I've just told them to stick to the regular servicing, and to clean the air conditioner filter and condensor, which is included anyways in the servicing. Apart from that, theres a Rs.100 charge for PUC. Nothing apart from that.

He quoted an approx figure of :
4900 for the service,
1050 for the labour,
385 for break bleeding,

So, all in all, 6500 for everything.

He also showed me the Maruti rate card which showed 20 k servicing costs in A+ cities to be Rs.1050.

Incidentally, I also have an extended 3 year warranty from the same dealer. I'm not looking for any freebies/discounts, but just want to know if these are the standard rates from Maruti, since all the posts seem to indicate total costs of Rs.5000.

My vdi is about to complete 20k kms. I had a telephonic equiry with Indus motors and Sai service, both at Thrissur and both of them are quoting Rs 6500.00 for 20k service. Tomorrow I plan to go to them to get a detailed estimate. Any suggestions on any better service centre in Tcr?

So this is the final quote I have received after bargaining.
Engine oil-691,
Oil Filter-333,
Gear oil-643,
Coolant-208,
Fuel Filter-1068,
Air Filter-230,
Brake fluid-137,
Other consumeables-100.
Labour Rs 1500.00. Labour includes Paid service, Brake check and cleaning and suspension check.

So total will be around Rs 4900.00. Any suggestions?
