The Assam Transport Department has cancelled the trade licence issued to a dealer of the country''s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India, for allegedly selling old vehicles by repainting them, officials said on Tuesday. The District Transport Officer (DTO) of Kamrup Metropolitan, Gautam Das, said a person had filed complaints against the dealer at his office and at the Commissionerate of Transport for cheating customers.

Why should the license be cancelled only "temporarily" ? This is where room for "negotiation" comes into picture and this will, in all probability, lead to even more cars being repainted and sold as new! After the "rates" per car have been decided, of course, and the "temporary suspension" revoked. This is a case of 420, and the dealer should be prosecuted and jailed!

It is common knowledge that many cars suffer minor damage during transportation, especially by road. Minor scratches and dents are an everyday occurrence. All these are fixed by the dealers before delivery. This is something fairly standard across all manufacturers. All this is done before PDI.
