Skoda to set up over 225 dealerships by end-2022

Skoda has announced a plan to expand its dealer network in the coming years. The carmaker plans to have more than 225 touchpoints across India by the end of 2022.

According to the company, its dealer network has grown by almost 15% with the launch of the Kushaq. The brand plans to be present in more than 100 cities by August 2021, taking its total tally of sales and service facilities to over 170.

By the end of next month, Skoda will have its presence in Sangli, Bhilwara, Faridabad, Panchkula, Navsari, Vapi and Hardoi, among others cities. At present, the brand has a presence in more than 90 tier II-III cities such as Patiala, Sirsa, Ghaziabad, Alwar, Aligarh, Siliguri, Bhavnagar, Satara, Ahmednagar, Belgaum, Shimoga, Kannur, Alleppy, Dindigul, Karur, Nellore and Bhimavaram among others.

The Skoda Kushaq was launched exactly a month ago. The crossover is based on the MQB A0-IN platform and is part of the brand's India 2.0 project. The carmaker claims to have received more than 200 applications from interested parties to set up dealerships post its launch.

Skoda is indeed on a roll. The launch of Kushaq has given the much needed impetus to their ambitions with India 2.0 project. But as they scamper to have more dealer networks, hope they will do due diligence while selecting the dealers. They already have an old baggage on their shoulders to be shrugged off when it comes to their A.S.S and can't afford to get it wrong with the new ones they're onboarding.

I called out Skoda sales in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane and no one even bothered to answer my call. Let them first learn how to handle customers before launching new showrooms. The one in TVM is miles ahead

Ford India, you guys should be taking a note right now or maybe ask Zac and his team to set up a masterclass on how to adapt to changing business environment.

I get that Skoda's ASS is still a bit of a hit and miss but boy oh boy, they are trying hard to make a change.

Very confidence inspiring for sure.

My Superb is 3 months old and I'm thoroughly excited to see Skoda expand and improve especially after having dropped 40 big ones on them. It is easy to add 200+ dealers and miss out on quality, which something the existing ones lack and are catching up to.

I'm looking for a 2nd car and I hope Zac is reading this. Few areas that require work are:

Brand - Reliability, TCO and access to support
Digitisation and electronics in cars
Knowledge levels of service staff

I hope they are all both sales and more importantly service/repair outlets and not only sales outlets. We need more service outlets than purely sales outlets. My town, Udupi has a sales outlet from Tafe access since 2021. The service part seems nowhere in sight. The Mangalore workshop is small and congested. if the Kushaq is a success, then we are going to have a tough time at the Mangalore workshop. There definitely will be delays and errors, if Skoda doesn't expand the number of outlets.

At one point of time, VW service centres used to quote 3days for a general service.
Things have slightly improved now, and they take 2days now.

I hope skoda does better in these basic aspects.

This is good news! Ford dealers should be happy. They can switch now. VW/Škoda do make good cars, and them expanding their footprint is really great.

This is also where FADA should help the new dealers(in not becoming suckers!). They should take their learnings from the Ford exit and help these dealers make an informed decision. Also ensure that the agreements are fair and not one-sided.
