New Santro problem with the Registration Number

Hi All,

I need some help as my friend is facing an issue.

The Car : Santro XL purchased July last week

The dealer : Advaith Motors bangalore (lavale Road)

The Insurance company : ICICI Lombard

The Accident : On August 18th the car met with an accident [ no one was injured ]. As per the dealer, following things are damaged.
1. Drive shaft,
2. Axle [ where the engine is mounted ]
3. Crack in the gearbox,
4. Headlight
5. Bumper.

Insurance will pay :
50% for plastics
96% for other items
100% labour charges

The headache [part 1] :
Dealer say that since the insurance is on cover note, he has to pay it all & later get it reimbursed
On further digging, we found the car IS covered so the dealer told to go ahead with repair

The headache [part 2] :
Today, dealer got the RC book which mentions that the number which was earlier given to us it NOT our number.
As per the RC document, that number is for someone else.
As per the dealer, my friend willl be given another number (As per the RC book now).

The question :
1. Do we have a valid insurance still ?
2. How will this effect the situation as the car is still with the dealer/Service center.
3. Any suggestions how to resolve this issue ?

Regards,
quadra

quadra,
am happy that no one was hurt.
1.if your friend bought the car in the last week of July (which starts July 25th) how did he have an accident on the 18th of July?
2.to my knowledge, limitation of 50% of the cost of plastics are applicable only after the car is 6 months old.before that the insurance co has to cough up the total amount.
3.make changes in the cover note by contacting the insurer immediately ,notifying them the dealer's error in issuing you the wrong reg number.
4.expedite the policy papers with the new registration number.
5.in my opinion this is an open and shut case.your friend is entitled to his claim on his policy.

Thank you again for all the help.

PS: How do i edit my own post, cant see any link ?

Insurance cover is for the owner in respect of a specified car. Unless the vehicle is insured, tax cannot be paid, and no registration. So wrong regn no. in insurnce papers oguht not be a problem.

Thank you backseatdriver,

My friend today has received his car. He is not pro but he says the car is ok.

About the insurance, the icici guys called their mumbai office. Then signed a form stating that the there has been a typo in the name of the customer.

Also that he will get a new number now.

He had to pay 12000 from his pocket

I dont see any mistake of your friend here. Its the dealers responsibility to get every document correctly. According to me your friend shouldn't have taken delivery of the car.

Thats the rule. Nothing wrong in there.

Did the car climb over the divider for such kind of under body damage?
Ask the dealer what they did for damage no.3

The car hit a tree on the left [ from co-driver side ] at a speed of 40-45.

The dealer changed the gearbox casing

As i told earlier the car is back from the dealer. My friend says the car is behaving ok but its not the same way as it used to be. Maybe a physcological factor.
Also he says the engine noise as increased
Any inputs on it.

So he is planning to get it checked in the next service date
