True, but I make it a point to pay all the tax amounts after I have all the documents in hand. This takes a lot of negotiating with the sales rep but eventually works. This is exactly what I did with the purchase of my Swift. I paid the vehicle invoice value upfront. The road tax and insurance amounts were paid after I had the tax receipt and the insurance deed in my hand.

Hey, you mentioned something about a 'surprise' in the chennai meet thread also. What is this 'surprise thing' all about ?

OT: BTW, did you know that John (not our e_l, but John 'the abs' Abraham) picked up a new Gypsy King recently and customised it beautifully. Looks real good.

Checked my Civic's detailed papers.

Not one paisa taken above the cost.

Ex-showroom + insurance (10% discount) + road tax + INR 500 for temp plates (I think. Already forgot. My memory is hopeless). Accurate down to the paisa.

Surprised to see Peninsular didn't cheat me. Then again, my dad is very meticulous about this stuff. Now that I think about it, we calculated their numbers before giving the DDs and they were spot on. Sad to see them trying to cheat you.

Even though we didn't pay ask them to do the actual registration, they still arranged for their contact at the RTO for handling the actual inspection and paper work after we got the custom number formalities done. Smooth sailing all the way.

Hmm. I am not sure if this would work in TN. Here, we pay the full amount - ex-showroom + insurance + taxes.

He he. I am happy spreading awareness on tbhp. In sarkari "Jaago graahak jaago" - ishtyle.

A car is a 4-wheeled automobile to get me in relative safety from point-A to point-B with the main criteria being reliability.

A tank, till I joined tbhp meant the T-72 or Arjun or Bheeshma battle tanks used by the Indian Army. But post-tbhp, I learnt that it is also used interchangeably with a certain hatch of Italian parentage.

I dont know about mine , but when we took delivery of a friends indica, even after getting a 30K discount, his dad checked out the amounts and still managed to find a 2k difference in the cash. they insisted that they couldnt give it back as cash, so we settled for a left ORVM and some other parts

I caught this RTO tax game that dealers and agents play sometime back and asked them to take a hike. Got an RTO agent to do my regn as per actuals with receipt and paid him his fees of 3000 odd. I think the RTO tax is 7% of ex showroom value in Maharastra.

Peninsular has a completely abysmal reputation. So yes, whenever I deal with them, I fully expect to be cheated.

I think the base version just about manages to come in 3 lakhs, but not sure whether it has PS - a main requirement since it is mostly going to be lady-driven. Will check that out - that is one non-Suzuki car I like.

Thats really an eye opener.
I always used to ignore the tax part of the deals.
However i need to be more careful about it.
